We are in Toronto now. The town is pretty with the cute brick buildings and a lot of flowers. People are laid back, a lot of events and entertaiments are going on....NICE!!

Torontoにきています。カナダの東側のこの町はレンガ造りの建物やたくさんの花がとてもきれい。町の人もせかせかしていないし、イベントやお楽しみが目白押し。

The ROM Museum across from our hotel was a great looking building. ホテルの向かいにあるROM美術館は建物が素敵。

...and the building was the best part of this museum. Kids may love those dino's exhibition thogh. でもその素敵な建物がこの美術館の目玉ですね。子供達は恐竜の骨とか楽しいかもだけど。

Cheese cake

Made a cheese cake. I am not good at baking and Steven has been suffered from eating oh-no-uncooked-chiffon-cake, inedible-too-hard-cookies and so on. (I don't post these failures to my blog so only Steven knows how bad I am.) However, this time it went OK.
チーズケーキをこのレシピで焼きました。お菓子つくりはあまり得意ではないのでStevenはこのところ私の”焼きの足りないねちょねちょシフォンケーキ”や”こんなの食べれない硬いクッキー”などでひどい目にあっているので（こんな失敗はもちろんブログにはあげないのでStevenのみぞ知る。）ちょっと心配でしたが今回はまあまあの出来でしたよ。
I put some brandy soaked dry cherries so has some brandy and tart flavor. Yum!
ブランデーに漬けたドライチェリーを入れたのでお酒のにおいとチェリーの甘酢っぱい味がおいしかった！

After the high calorie snack, dinner should be light....Well, we like grilled vegies. The Japanese leek is from a Japanese farmer at Sunnyvale Farmer's Market. Sweeeeet!
そんな高カロリーなおやつの日の夕飯はグリル野菜。真ん中のおねぎはSunnyvaleのFarmer's Marketに出ている日本人の農家から買ったもの。甘くておいしかった。

Hawaiian Quilt

I am doing Hawaiian quilting now. This is hibiscus pattern.
ハワイアンキルトをしています。これはハイビスカスのパターン。

The whole pattern is like this.
全体像はこんな感じ。

I actually started it 6 years ago using this book with help of Jean, my host mother in Santa Cruz and made 5 panels at that time. Now I have 6 panels but haven't decided what to make with them. Bed cover? Wall hanging? Pillows?
実は6年ほど前に始めた時に、この本を使い、又、サンタクルーズのホストマザー、ジーンに習いながらいくつか作ったので5枚できあがりがあるのですが、これを何にするかは未定。ベッドカバー？壁掛け？クッション？

Well, I just keep making them and decide later...
まあ、今はこのまま作り続けて、何にするかはその内考えようっと。

Father's Memorial Day

Father's day is right around the corner but today was my father's day because it was my father's memorial day. They make small sized meals and give it to people who has passed away on their memorial days in Japan. Since I couldn't be there this year, I made some like my mom always does.

父の日がもうすぐですが、パパの命日の今日が私の父の日でした。今年は帰国できなかったので、ママがいつも作るものを思い出しながらごりょうぶぜん（漢字がわからず。）を作りました。

I cannot celebrate Father's day for my father anymore but guess what? I have now two fathers to celebrate since I married to Steven. Lucky me! (I also sent something to them today and hoping they will be there on time!! Go go, US Post Service!!
父の日をパパと祝うことはできないけれど、Stevenと結婚したおかげで何と今は2人のお義父さんがいるんです。ラッキー。（この二人には今日、父の日プレゼントを送ったんだけど、間に合うかなあ。アメリカの郵便局がんばれ！）

Camping

The weather has been nice so let's go to camping!
お天気もよくなってきたし、キャンプにでも行きましょうか！

It was second time for us to come. This place is easy to get to and has beautiful redwoods.
This is our site. Steven has already made a fire and built a tent.
ここに来るのは２回目。近いし杉の木の森が気持ちいいから。
ここが私たちのキャンプ地Stevenはすでに火を焚いて、テント設置済み。

We walked in the redwoods, cooked, played scrabble, played Tracball, and read books.
It was so relaxed and fun but we had back soar from sleeping on the hard ground for 2 nights.
森の中を歩いたり、お料理したり、ScrabbleやTracballしたり、本を読んだりしてリラックスして楽しくすごしました。ただ2晩硬い地面の上にねると背中が痛いね、やっぱり。



Steven is cooking breakfast. The menu was blueberry panckae and potato+onion+corn saute.
The pancake cooked on the campfire was very tasty. The outside was very crispy and soft inside.
Stevenが朝ごはんを作っているところ。ブルーベリーパンケーキとじゃがいも＋玉ねぎ＋とうもろこしのソテー。焚き火で作ったパンケーキは外がカリカリ、中がしっとりですごくおいしかった。



The kids in the neighbor sites were crying and screaming all day long. I almost stuck them in my sleeping bag.
近くにはたくさん子供たちもいて一日中、泣いたりわめいたりですごくうるさかった。寝袋に詰め込んでやろうかと思ったよ。

Bay to Brakers

I had been running every other day for one month for my first my marathon, Bay to Brakers. This is the San Francisco famous 7.4miles race with/without costume. Funny people are here. We wore happi and it took 1.5 hour to finish. We watched and laughed at people with funny costume, listened to the live band on the road....it was so much fun.

この１ヶ月、一日おきにまじめに走っていました。それもBay to Brakersというサンフランシスコの12Kmマラソンのためです。このマラソンはコスチューム（ここを見てね。）を着て走ってもいい楽しいお祭りのようなものなので、お友達とはっぴを着て1時間30分くらいで走ってきました。おもしろいコスチュームの人たちを見ながら笑ったり、走っている道路沿いでライブしてくれたバンドを聞いたりしながら楽しく走りました。



The night before, we stayed in SF and had an anniversary dinner at Le Colonial.
前日はSFに泊まって、結婚記念日も近かったので前から行きたかったLe Colonial.でごはん。

Apettizer assortment was great, too but the picture didn't come out well.　All the dishes were wonderful !! 前菜の盛り合わせもおいしかったけど写真がぼけちゃってだめでした。全て納得のいくおいしさでした。

Home cooking!

Since we have been away from home more than 1 month so we missed home cooking.
I love cooking and Steven likes my cooking, too so we have home cooking when we can. 一ヶ月以上も外食生活が続いたのでおうちごはんが恋しかった私たち。お料理好きだしStevenも私の料理が好きみたいなので旅行していないときはなるべくおうちごはん。

Jamaican oxtail stew -- cooked for 3 hours so meat were soooo tender.
ジャマイカ風牛テールシチュー。３時間も煮込んだのでお肉がホロホロ。


French toast with strawberries and pecan nuts...summer is coming. The strawberries were sweet!　フレンチトースト。ピカンナッツをかけてイチゴと一緒に。夏が近づきイチゴが甘くなってきました。


Soy sauce marinated tuna sushi, tofu+veggies, and grilled eggplants.
まぐろのづけ寿司、豆腐＋ほうれんそう、しいたけの白和え、焼きなす


Home made spinach gnocchi + tomato sauce and octopus carpaccio.
ほうれん草のニョッキも作ったよ。トマトソースと一緒に。右のはたこのカルパッチョ。

Seoul, Korea 6

This is the famous sakura spot in Seoul, Yeouido. Sakura couldn't wait to bloom for the Sakura festival which will be held next week. It was full bloomed. BEAUTIFUL!!　ここはソウルでも有名な桜の名所、ヨイド。来週にひかえる桜まつりを待てず満開。きれいでした！




On the way back home, we stopped at Narita for transit and we found a massacre scene! No, they are just taking nap.
帰りは成田経由だったのだけど、殺戮現場を発見。実は疲れて仮眠中の皆様。

Seoul, Korea 5

On the day Mom and Ryoko went back to Japan, we went to Toksugung palace for the last minute sight seeing. ママと涼子が日本へ帰る前に最後の観光、徳寿宮へ。
見事な桜。Beautiful sakura.
Ryoko is pretending ring the bell. This goofy girl has a goofy sister. 涼子は鐘を鳴らしているふり。いやはや…。この妹にしてこの姉あり。




We had a lot of fun and wished they could stay longer...
すごく楽しかった。もう少し二人がいられればよかったけど。

Seoul, Korea 4

Mom, Ryoko and me went out for shopping. First we went to a small local restaurant for breakfast. I loved the egg dish on the right. It was like a savory egg souffle and it was light and fluffy. The red dish on the right was too spicy for me. Mom and Ryoko liked it though. ママ、涼子と私でショッピングしに街へ繰り出す。最初は朝ごはん。とても小さい地元の食堂を発見。右側の卵料理がとてもおいしかった。スフレのような茶碗蒸しのような軽いふわふわした食感でGood.　左側の赤いのはちょっと辛すぎ。ママと涼子にはおいしかったみたいだけど。

涼子「このラーメンすごくおいしいから絶対食べてみて。」
Ryoko :"This ramen is soooooo good. You need to try it."

Market has a lot of interesting stuff. These are famous dried fish.
マーケットには面白いものがいっぱい。これは特産の干物。


We bought a lot of stuff and these two got high points. 1. Meat dumpling bigger than her face. 2. The vivid red coat for Mom. いろいろ買ったものの内、二つを紹介。１．顔より大きい肉まん。２．ママの真っ赤なコート。

The red coat stands out at the hotel lobby, too :)
赤いコートはホテルのロビーでも映える。

world heritage, Changdeokgung. Mom, Ryoko, Maruyama san, Sascha, Steven and me make 4.5 Japanese and 1 American and 0.5 German(Sascha Goto is Japanese/German) so we took a guided Japanese tour :)
世界遺産の昌徳宮。ママ、涼子、丸山さん、Sascha、Stevenそして私なので日本人4.5人、アメリカ人一人、ドイツ人が0.5人（後藤Saschaさんはハーフ日本人/ドイツ人なのです。）で多数決で日本語ガイドツアー！：）




We had a great time in this tour. Beautiful buildings and gardens. Very colorful, too.
とても楽しいツアーでした。建物や庭も美しく、色彩もカラフル。




Yes, it was Sakura season in Seoul, too!
ソウルも又、桜の季節でした。

Went to a Samgetang restaurant for dinner. Samgetang is a whole chicken stew with Korean herb and Jinseng. So tasty!! Had Chijimi which is green onion pancake. Yummy!夕食はサムゲタン専門店へ。鶏が丸ごと朝鮮人参やハーブで煮込んであってとってもおいしい！ねぎ焼きのようなチジミと一緒にいただきました。

Seoul, Korea 2

Visited National Museum of Korea. Wow, this is the most organaized museum in the world!!! I have a hard time to keep tracking the route in the museum. (Well, not only in the museum...anywhere really.) I have no sense of directions and I usually go to museums by myself while Steven is working so I get lost all the time. I was very comfortable walking in this museum because all the areas has numbers and the route you need to take is always cleary shown so I just need to follow. Their collections are great of course.
ソウル国立美術館へ。ここは世界一きちんと整理されている美術館だと思った。美術館では私はいつも迷ってどこにいったのかどれを見たのかわからなくなってしまう。（実は美術館だけでなくどこでもだけど。）方向音痴がひどくてStevenが仕事をしている間にいく美術館めぐりはとんでもないことになるのです。ここは全てのセクションに番号がふってあって順路がはっきり表示されていて迷うことなく楽しく鑑賞しました。



Also went to Leeum Samsung Museum of Art.
Leeum サムソン美術館にも行きました。

Not only their collections but their buildings are very impressive.
美術品も素晴らしかったけど建物がとてもモダンで素敵。

A big bouqet was waiting for me in the hotel room!!
ホテルのお部屋に戻ったら大きなブーケが！

Steven rembered the day we met for the first time and sent this to me. So sweet!!!! It was a surprise, too!!
Stevenが初めて会った日を覚えていてくれてお花を贈ってくれたの。超やさしい!　それもサプライズ。

We had octopus spicy fried rice for dinner. スパイシーたこ焼き飯がディナー。Me, Steven and Sascha. Sascha doesn't like Kimchi so he is having a hard time here.
私、Steven、Saschaの3人で行きました。Saschaはキムチが嫌いなので韓国では大変です。
