Eating out

I ate out three times this week. Once is with Sumiko san. It was her belated birthday lunch at Italian place in Cupertino. Heard this Italian served pasta al dente. We were very excited about it. Well the past was not so bad but it was not al dente. The picture shows the dessert we shared, rhubarb short cake.
今週は3回も外でランチをいただきました。一度はすみ子さんと。遅くなったけれど彼女の誕生日のお祝いにCupertinoのイタリアンへ。ここはアルデンテでパスタが出てくると聞いたので。（注:アメリカでアルデンテで出てくるところは本当に稀なのです。）とても期待して行った結果。お味は悪くないけれどアルデンテではなかったわね。でもおいしかった。写真は2人で仲良くいただいたルーバーブのショートケーキ。

Second eat out was at Sushi Tomi on Saratoga Ave. The fish was fresh and tasty!!! We loved them but....the sushi rice was under seasoned. Needed more vinegar and sugar. I would go back to give it a try though. Steven's was extra-special Chirashi sushi. He wanted it because it got toro and uni.
第二のランチはサラトガ通りにあるすし豊味で。お魚が新鮮でおいしい!!!　2人ともとても気に入りました。でも…すし飯がちょっと味付けが浅かったな。もっとお酢やお砂糖があってもよかったかな。それ以外は文句ないので又、行ってみるつもりです。写真はStevenの特上ちらし。うにとトロがあったから。

Mine was special chirashi sushi because I don't like fatty fish like toro. Uni? Yeah, I like. Don't worry, I stoled some of Steven's.
私のは上ちらし（真ん中クラスです。）だってトロとか脂っぽいお魚は苦手なんだもーん。うに？それは大好き。大丈夫。Stevenのをちょっと盗んだから。

Third one was sizziling dish in Milpitas but I forgot to take pictures. :( Mine had beef, an egg, and rice came on a sizziling metalic plate. The beef and egg were raw when they were served. You poured some sauce on and cook them on the metalic plate. You hear sizziling sound, smell cooked soy sauce and taste the mix of goddies so you enjoy it with three senses. Oh wait...you might feel the hot liquid jumping at you so four. :) I want to go back this place to have one with curry powder.
第3のランチはMilpitasでじゅうじゅうランチ。カメラを忘れて写真を撮れなかったの。:( 私のは牛肉と卵とご飯が熱々の鉄板の上に乗ってきました。お肉と卵は来たときには生で、自分で鉄板の上で焼くの。お醤油ベースのソースをかけながら。じゅうじゅうという音を聞いて、焦げたお醤油の匂いを嗅いで、そのおいしいを味わうから三感で楽しめる。あ、待って。たまに熱いお汁が飛んで来て、熱いって感じるので４感ね。:)　楽しかったです。今度はそれにカレー粉が乗ってるの食べたい。

We almost got it, 49ers!!

So it was a big deal for Bay Area people. We were all hiked up. Our streets, towns, groups...everybody was so excited to see this game. 49ers are baaaaack!
そう、ベイエリアに住んでいる人達には大変なことだったんですよ。アメフトのSan Francisco 49ersが今日、勝てばSuperbowlに行くってんですから。街をあげての、大騒ぎ。みんなが期待していました。あの49ersが帰ってきた！って。

As usual, I jumped on the band wagon and got a Tshirt at Target. There was only a big size so I needed to trim sleeves, width and length. Cute, isn't it? Steven has an old Tshirt (Yes, he is not a band wagon hopper unlike me.) His Tshirt has embroide "San Francisco" letters. Nice.
私はいつもどおり、うまく行ってる時だけのにわかファンなので、あわててTargetに行ってシャツを買ってきました。大きいメンズサイズしかなかったので、袖、脇、丈をツメて女の子サイズに。かわいいでしょ。Stevenはワタシとちがってにわかファンではないので、ちゃんと昔のTシャツがあります。刺繍でSan Franciscoと書いてあってナイス。

Well, let me explain...I have been their fan since 80's when Montana was playing. I even had his autograph saying "Dear Mikako". Did you notice that I said "I HAD" ? Yeah, you can easily guess I lost it when I moved. :( Anyway, I used to have team shirt and all but I was not so faithful fan because they had been sucked. (sorry, guys but true) Last month, my dentist told me I had to pay attention to the team because they were doing very well this season. He supposed to say I need to pay attention to my teeth but no, his concern was 49ers.
でもね、説明させていただければ私はMontanaが活躍してた80年代からのファンでもあるわけです。なんとDear Mikakoと書いた彼のサインまで持っていたという。「持っていた」というのはタイポではなく、事実。だってお引越しの時になくしちゃったんだもーん。昔はチームシャツとかも持っていたのですがその後あまりにひどいのでファンもやめてました。（ごめんね、49ers.でもホントにひどかったでしょ。）先月、歯医者の先生から「だめだよ、もっと注意してみてないと。かなりいい感じなんだから。」と言われて気づく始末。彼も「歯に気をつけなさい。」と言う前に、アメフトのチームを気にかけろというのだからね。うふふ。

We even got a football field shape cup cake (and I ate it by myself.). The game snack were Guacamole with cumin seeds, goat cheese+sun dried tomato paste on baguette and smoked almond. We also drunk Sake and I drunk orange juice+vodka.
アメフトのフィールドを模したカップケーキまで買いました。一人で食べたけど。観戦用にはグアカモリ、ゴートチーズ＋サンドライドトマトペーストをバゲットに乗せたもの、そしてスモーク味のアーモンド。これを日本酒で。私はオレンジジュース+ウォッカまでいただきました。

I don't want to mention about the game today but keep talking about the food we had :) We decided to have burgers for dinner. I made my own Teriyaki burger like the one in Mos burger. Delish! The game was delish as well at this point.
試合のことは言わないけど、食べたものは言っちゃう。夕食にはハンバーガーをいただきました。私のはモスバーガーみたいなテリヤキにしましたよ。おいしかった。試合もこの時はおいしい感じだったのよ！

Oh, well. We couldn't go to Superbowl but considering they had been at the bottom for long time, we can say "They are back!" Looking forward next season. Go go, 49ers!!
まあ、いいさ。Superbowlには行けなかったんだけど、長い長い低迷期から上がってきたんだから、あの伝説の49ersが「戻ってきた」と言えるのでは？来シーズンに期待します。がんばれ49ers!!

Visiting friends in SF

We are in SF to see our friends in San Francisco. This is me and Bay bridge.
San Franciscoの友人を訪ねに行きました。まずはワタクシとベイブリッジの写真をぱちり。

We went to Ferry Terminal and grab a bite. They had Farmer's market there and everyrthing looks yummy. Steven and Clark got pizzas and Dennise got a humburger.
フェリーターミナルでランチを買います。ファーマーズマーケットをやっていて何でもとてもおいしそうです。StevenとClarkはピザ、Denniseはハンバーガーをゲット。

I got a ramen!! Tell you the truth, I was not expecting a lot at this stand but IT WAS GOOD! I had pork ramen with soft boiled egg. Yum! We sit on the grass and had our lunch. Oh,Yeah.While I was waiting for my ramen to serve, I ran into my running friends! Small wrold!
私はなんとラーメン！まあ、こういうところですので、あまり期待していなかったのだけど、すごくおいしかった！ポークラーメンに温泉卵をのせて。おいしい！芝生の上に座りみんなでランチ。そうそう、ラーメンを待ってる間にランニングチームの友達にばったり会いました。びっくり。

They had a skate link there and I wanted to skate!!!
スケートリンクも開業中。滑りたかったな。

After the lunch, we went to Green Apple book store and stopped by their house. They have a beautiful Victorian house near the Golden Gate Pan handle. Love the ceiling and their old furniture.　
ランチの後はGreen Appleの本屋さんにいって、そして彼らの家に行きました。とても美しいVictorianハウスで、何とGolden Gate Pan handleのすぐそば。天井やモルディング、古い家具が美しい。

I also love their dogs, Lucy and Ziggy. They showed us their new tricks and soooooo cuuuuute!
We had a great time this afternoon. Dennise and Clark are so funny together and we laughed too much...We are so bummmed because Allyson couldn't join us because of her work. Next time you all need to come down to visit us!
Lucy とZiggyもかわいい。どんどん、大きくなるこの人たち。いろいろな芸を見せてくれました。DenniseとClarkの二人は本当におもしろくて今日は笑いすぎ。お仕事中のAllysonに会えなくてとても残念ですが、今度は皆さんでウチにいらしてねえ。

Breakfast on Steven's days off

Steven has been off this week so we are weekend mode everyday. We usually have a brunch on weekend so we have been brunching (?!) everyday this week. Yesterday, we had scramble egg on English muffin. We sprinkled Truffle salt which Sumiko gave us. Ohhh, it was soooooo gooooood! Thank you, Sumiko san!! The orange fruit on the plate is very riped persimmon.

今週、Stevenはずっとお休みなので毎日が週末モードです。週末は普通ブランチをする私達なので、毎日ブランチング（そんな言葉はない）しています。昨日はスクランブルエッグをイングリッシュマフィンにのせたもの。すみ子さんからいただいたトリュフソルトをふりかけて、いただきました。おおお、おいしい！すみ子さんありがとうございました！お皿の上のオレンジ色のフルーツは熟れた柿です。

Now, today was different. We had a Japanese brunch! We were very lucky that we got some home made mochi from our friend. I made natto mochi with grated daikon. Ohhhhh, this was heaven!! Thank you Nakano san!
そして今日は趣向の違うブランチ。和食ブランチをいただきました。実はラッキーにもホームメイドの新鮮なお餅を私達のお友達からいただいて、納豆モチにしました。大根おろしかけてね。いやあ、天国です、新鮮なおお餅って。中野さん、ありがとうございました。

Now we have six mochi left. We need to save five for New Year's soup so I could have one when Steven is not looking....Yeah, he is focused on the book he is reading in the living room now. Now is the time!! :)
さて、6個になっちゃいましたよ。5個はお雑煮用に残すとしても、あとの1個はこっそり食べても平気じゃない？あ、Stevenはリビングルームで真剣に本読んでる。今だ！ぱくり。:)

Merry Christmas!

We were a little busy around the holiday so we decided to not have a Christmas tree this year. However, I decorated inside of the house here and there.

今年は年末ちょっと忙しかったのでクリスマスツリーはナシにしました。でも、家の中をちょっと飾ってみましたよ。

Steven has just got home from a long business trip so we had a nice quiet Christmas by ourselves. Scalop appetizer, avocado cream canapé , and Dungeness crab with crab butter sauce. I made the sauce with crab butter (That's right, it is Crab guts!), butter, onions, garlic and herbs. The dessert was cream puff from Beard Papa. Mmmmmm delicious.
Stevenが長い出張から帰って来たばかりだったので、クリスマスは静かに2人ですごしました。ホタテの前菜、アボカドクリームのかなっぺ、カニとカニ味噌のソース。ソースはかに味噌、バター、にんにく、玉ねぎ、ハーブで作りました。デザートはBeard Papaのシュークリーム。ああ、おいしかった。

By the way, at night of the day Steven came home, our couch was very crowded. Hey, it looks like I didn't take care of you guys while he was gone. Stop that look!
ところで、Stevenが帰ってきた日の夜。カウチは込み込み。ちょっとお、何だか、彼がいない間、アンタ達をかわいがらなかったみたいじゃないのよお。やめてよね、そういう態度。

BAJR Year End Party

My running team, BAJR had a bonenkai (Year End Party) today.

I brought appetizer and dessert.

We did a white elephant and I got a portable DVD player!! Who doesn't want this?! Now I can watch movies ANYWHERE. There were a lot of goofy gifts with laugh after laugh. I brought $1 plastic daikon grater in an iPad box & an Apple store bag. :) I felt bad that I got a DVD player for that! Oh, well I was lucky this year, I guess.

Good food, Good people, Good laugh. How fun was that!?
Look at me and Marie chan in our team shirt. Don't we look like promo-girls? Hee, hee, hee...

I had great running time/experience with them this year. It is almost a life changing encounter. Thank you, guys!!

Nutcracker

I went to see Nutcracker today. It is not an ordinary one. It is the one that my friend is in!! Well, she is my friend's daughter. She got a relatively big role which is one of Clara's friends. Considering she has just came from Japan and joined this ballet school, it is a very big deal!
クリスマスのお決まり、胡桃割り人形を見に行きました。ただの「胡桃割り…」じゃないよ。お友達が出ているんだから。うーん、お友達のお嬢さんだけれどね。彼女は主役のクララのお友達の一人を演じたのだけれど、それはわりに大きな役なんです。数ヶ月前に日本からきて、このバレエ団に入ったばかりなのにあの役をいとめるとは。

She was VERY cute and good on the stage. Too bad I could not take pics. After the show, I waited outside of the back stage to see her. I saw a lot of adoreble little dancers.
舞台上での彼女はとてもかわいくて、上手に踊れていました。写真を撮れないのが残念でした。バレエのあと裏口で待ち伏せしていたら、他のかわいいダンサー達が出てきましたよ。

I took a pic with this little princess who is going to be Clara in 5 years. I promised her I will come to see her in Clara role.
5年後にクララになる彼女と写真を撮りました。そのときは絶対に見に行くからと約束したの。

Another turkey dish and Christmas decoration

After Thanksgiving I re-arranged my door wreath like this. See, it is very Christmacy, isn't it? :)
感謝祭の後はクリスマス。ドアリースもちょっとアレンジしてこんな風になりました。クリスマスっぽいでしょ？:）

A lot of people make sandwich, soup or caserole with leftover turkey but we did this. Turkey hot pot! Turkey is already cooked so didn't get broth from that but still tasted goooood. We had it with mushroom, backweat noodle, napa cabbage, and green onions. Mmmmmmm. Winter dish.
普通、感謝祭の残り物ターキーでサンドウィッチやスープやキャセロールを作るのだけれど、ウチはターキー鍋！ターキーがすでに調理されているのでお出汁はでませんが、おいしかったよ。マッシュルーム、おそば、白菜、そしておねぎを入れました。んんんん、おいしかった。冬のごはんです。

Thanksgiving leftover party

Thanksgiving always lefts us a lot of food so we had a leftover party with our lovely neighbors. I made turkey dip with crackers (up-right in the pic above). Bob brought a deepfried turkey and it was very tasty. He marinated it in soysauce instead of brine liquid. Yum!
感謝祭はたくさんお料理を作るのでいつも残り物がでます。それでそれを使ってご近所さんとパーティーをするのがこのところの習慣。上の写真の右上が私が作ったターキーディップとクラッカー。Bobはフライドターキーを持ってきてくれました。お醤油につけてあったそうで、おいしかった！

My favorite kids in neighborhood D and G was there. They were already excited about Christmas wich is one month away. :) Cute.
私の大好きなDくんとGちゃんもきてました。1ヶ月先のクリスマスをもう楽しみにしてそのことばかり話していました。かわいい。

The Norton family had fun with good chat and good food as usual.
いつものようにNortonファミリーはおしゃべりとおいしいお料理で楽しい時間を過ごしました。

Thanksgiving dinner

Happy Thanksgiving! We are ready to have guests.
Happy Thanksgiving! 用意はできて、後はゲストの到着を待つばかり。

Mr. Ni, Mr.&Mrs Na and their kids, No-kun & Yu-chan are here! We had a toast with bubbly drink. The kids had apple cider though. First we had Ceviche Japonesa made by Mr. Ni. The scallops marinated in olive oil and sweet peppers was sooooo tasty.

に氏となご夫妻そしてそのお子さん、の君とゆちゃんがいらっしゃいましたよ。まずはスパークリングワインで乾杯。あ、お子様はアップルサイダーですけど。に氏には和風セビーチェを作っていただきました。お刺身のホタテがオリーブオイル、その他のヒミツのものそして赤ピーマンで和えられていて、おいしいいいいいい。

I know, honey. Scallops are your most favorite seafood. Enjoy!
わかってますよ、Steven。ホタテはあなたの大好物だものね、うれしそう。十分お楽しみ下さい。

Hey, turkey is also ready finally!! Looks great, doesn't it? Mrs. Na brought her dishes, green bean casserole, mashed potato, and beautiful fruit tart!! Ohhhhh, everything was delicious. Mr. Na curved a turkey on the mashed potato and it is very cute. Didn't know you had a talent like this. Brussel sprouts+bacon(no photo), chestnut+bacon stuffing, and green pea soup+truffle oil were good, too. Ohhh, forgot to take a pic of Mr.Ni's bruschetta :( His Tiramisu was the most tastiest one I have ever had! He learned this in France. No wonder....Thank you everybody for your contributions.
はいはい！ターキーが出来ましたよ！おいしそうではないですか？Na夫人にお持ちいただいたのはグリーンピーンズのキャセロール、マッシュポテトそして世にも美しいフルーツタルト！おおおお、どれもとてもおいしくいただきました。あ、Na氏がマッシュポテトに掘られたターキー君はとてもかわいかった。彼にこんな才能があったとは！私は芽キャベツとスモークベーコンの炒め物（写真なし）と栗とベーコンのスタッフィングとグリーンピース＋トリュフオイルのスープを作りましたがこちらもよくできました。あ、に氏のブルシェッタの写真もない！彼が作られたティラミスは今まで食べた中で一番おいしかったかも。フランスのお料理教室で習われたそうです。なるほどお。みなさん、たくさんおいしいものを持ってきてくださってありがとうございました。

No-kun and Yu-chan are very cute and also teenagers with the best attitude. Great kids!
な家ののくんとゆちゃんはそれはかわいいお子様。それになんとお行儀のいいティーンエイジャーなんでしょ。

Not only attitude. They are very talented! Yu-chan played 2nd Menuet from L'Arlesienne! She was shy and she didn't want us to look at her while she was playing. CUTE!! Nice to listen to the pretty sound. No-kun showed us how to do "modern yoyo". It was not the same with the one I was using when I was a kid. It doesn't come up easily. He showed off his high leveled technique. Thank you both of you．It was very entertaining!
このティーンエイジャーはお行儀がいいだけではありません。タレントをお持ちなんですよ。ゆちゃんはフルートで「アルルの女」を演奏してくれました。彼女はとても恥ずかしがって吹いてる時に私達に見ないで欲しいと。かわいい！美しい音色を楽しみました。さて、の君は「現代」のヨーヨー使いを見せてくれました。私が子供の頃に使っていたのとは大違い。簡単には上に上がってこないんです！いろいろなハイテクなワザを見せ付けられて、大人はうなるばかり。お2人ともありがとう！とても楽しかった。

We had a great night and 4 bottles are gone. The Italian one on the left was survived. :) Thank you everybody for the great time and thank you for your help, Steven!
楽しい夕べを過ごして空けたワインは4本。左のイタリアンワインは生き残りました。:）みなさん、楽しい時間をありがとうございました。Steven,いろいろと手伝ってくれてありがとう！

Thanksgiving Prep

We are having guests for Thanksgiving dinner this year and started prepping! First I made an center piece for table. Well, I didn't get a turkey figure but got some orange colors at least. I also made a door wreath and got some Christmas-like greens for the kitchen. Why kitchen? I cannot place ANY flowers/plants in the place cats can reach. Grrrrr!!!! Cranberry sauce came out good, too. I cooked them in orange juice.
明日の感謝祭にはお客様をお呼びしているので準備を始めました。まず、テーブルにおくアレンジメント。普通はターキーの形をした何かを置くのだけどまあ、いいかな。感謝祭色のオレンジ色を入れたのでね。ドアリースをつくり、キッチンはクリスマスチックなグリーンも飾りました。どうしてキッチンかって？だって猫達がアクセスできるところにはお花や植物を置けないんです。ぶううう。クランベリーソースもおいしくできました。オレンジジュースで煮たの。

Steven insisted to buy a roasting pan so we went to Sur la Table and got this!
Stevenがどうしてもロースト用のパンを買うというのでSur La Tableでこれを買ってきました！

Since we went to Santana Row, let's have lunch here!! We went to our favorite one, Straits.

せっかく、Santana Rowに行ったのだもの、ランチして帰りましょ！私達の好きなStraitsに行きました。

It will be the first time for me to cook a whole turkey by myself. I did legs or breast or some parts of the bird but never did a whole turkey. Seven of us are eating so got 12lb turkey.
実は丸ごとターキーを一人で焼くのは始めて。（手伝ったことはある。）足だけとか胴体だけとか部分で焼いたことはあるのだけれど、丸ごとはチキンだけでターキーはないのです。7人でいただくので5.5Kgのターキー君。

I brined the bird with salt, sugar and herbs. Good night turkey, sleep tight and be tasty. :)
塩、砂糖そして色々なハーブとお水につけて冷蔵庫へ。お休みターキー、おいしくなってね。:)

Beaujolais nouveau 2011

Yes, today is the third Thursday of November. It means Beaujolais nouveau day! I know, I know. Some people (especially people here in US) don't care about this but I am a Japanese (it is a HUGE deal in Japan) and marride to the guy who has French descent ( my last name is French, you know...) I cannot pass this event even I am busy. Well, I knew I needed to go out and don't have much time to cook in the evening so I went to Wholefoods 9 in the morning. (Remember my BN day in 2009? It is the ONLY place you can get Beaujolais nouveau today around here.) I walking in the wine department with crossing my fingers....where is the baby? I couldn't find them. I was worried and I might not be able to get it. I couldn't find a wine guy either. I was standing there and a cheese guy asked me if he can help. I told him what I am looking for and he said "Well, they may not coming this year." I literary screamed there," Whaaaaat? No Beaujolais nouveau ? It can't be right." He was scared of my enthusiasm towards this wine and he said "Ahh, let me check the back." I thanked him thinking"Damn right! You check the back and tell me you are wrong!" After a LONG few minutes later, he came out from back holding a bottle of the wine! I gave him a special smile and thanks.

今日は11月の第三木曜日。ボージョレイヌーボーの日です。毎年言ってますがここ、アメリカではあまり馴染みのないイベント。私は日本人でしかもフランス人の血がちょこっとまざった人と結婚しているので、（Burkeという苗字はフレンチらしい。フランスに行くとマダムブーケと呼ばれる。）この日を普通に過ごすことはできません。今日は外出して忙しく、夕方そんなにお料理の時間が取れないことはわかっていたので、Wholefoodsに朝9時過ぎに行きました。私の2年前のこの日をお忘れではないでしょう。ここがこの辺唯一置いてあるお店なのです。あってくれよと祈りながらワイン売り場をうろうろしていましたが、ない。まさかの事態か？いつもはうるさいワイン専門の販売員も見当たらない。私はボーっとしてそこに立ちすくんでいたら、横のチーズ売り場の人が何かおさがしでしょうかと声をかけてくれる。探しているものを言ったら「あー、今年は入って来ないかもしれないですね。」私は文字通りそこで叫んでしまいました。「えええええええええ？ボージョレイがないんですか？それはありえないでしょう。」彼は私のワインに対するあまりにも大きな思い入れにちょっと引いて「あ、ちょっと裏を見てきます。」私はありがとうと微笑みながら心では「当然でしょ！早くストックをチェックしてきなさいよ！間違いでしたって証明してよね。」と怒りながら待ちました。長い2-3分後、彼はバックルームから出てきました。ワインボトルを提げて。私は特別の「にっこり」と引き換えにそのワインを受け取りレジスターへ。

Well, it didn't end my struggle today. I prepared everything before I went out. That's what I thought at least. I came home around 5:30 pm and checking my fancy Thomas Keller's French cook book and guess what I missed this morning. "Reduce red wine, veggies, and herbs for AN HOUR." I needed to sit down on my kitchen stool and think. Well, we both hungry and cannot wait 1 hour plus time so I decided to make easy appetizer (Pâté on mini toast and smoked salmon +Yogurt sauce on mini toast.) and serve them with wine before the dinner! (What a clever wife I am!!)
しかしながら、私の苦悩はそこでは終わらなかったのです。お出かけする前に全てばっちり、準備したの。少なくてもそう思っていました。5時半頃に帰宅して私の大事なThomas Kellerのフレンチ料理本を見たら、ナンと…。何を見落としていたでしょう？「赤ワインと野菜とスパイスで1時間煮詰める」の一行。私は愕然としてキッチンスツールに座って考えました。二人ともお腹すいてるし、1時間以上は待てない。それで簡単なおつまみを作って夕食の前にもうワインをあけてしまうことに決めました。なーんて賢い妻でしょう！（自画自賛）おつまみはパテをミニトーストに塗ったもの、そして同じくスモークサーモン＋ヨーグルトソース。

My Kabocha Pumpkin

I seeded Kabocha pumpkin early summer. I got the seeds in Japan and hid them in the bottom of my suitscase! Finally, we have ONE Kabocha! I made ground buffalo stuffed pumpkin. It was OK because the pumpkin is not sweet enough. Though Steven liked it, I think he is just beeing sweet. Look how small this is.　I am not going to do Kaboch anymore. :(

夏の初めに種まきしたかぼちゃがなりました。種を日本で買ってこっそりスーツケースの底に入れて帰ってきたのです。（種をアメリカ国内に持ち込むのは禁止されています。）そしてやっと1個なりました。バッファローの挽肉と野菜を詰めてチーズをかけてオーブンで焼きました。味はまあまあ。だってかぼちゃが甘くなかったんだもん。Stevenはおいしいって全部食べたけど、きっと料理人に気を使ってくれたのだと思う。それに小さいでしょお？もうカボチャはやめとく。

Sharks game

This great news suddenly came to me on Thursday morning. "Sharks game tonight, one ticket available and it's free!" One of my friends was looking for somebody to go with them and I was lucky enough to be picked!
この素晴らしいオファーが私の耳に届いたのは木曜の朝。「Sharksの今夜の試合、一枚チケットあり、しかも無料。」友人が行けなくなった人の代わりを探していてラッキーにも私に白羽の矢が立ったのでした。

I forgot to bring my camera so I don't have any pics during the game. The ones below are all from news site. It was a special game for Sharks because Devin Setoguchi came back to Shark tank as a Minnesota Wild Player! He and his other two guys were suddenly traded to Wild a few months ago and this was the first time to play against with his old teammates. I am sure there were some emotional matters between them but they are professional players. They must have been OK. Although Sharks fans gave warm welcome back to Seto and I screamed "Go, Setoguchi-kun a little bit." in Japanese. :)
カメラを持っていくのを忘れたので以下の写真はニュースサイトからのものです。今夜は実は特別の試合だったのです。元Sharksの選手、デビン・セトグチが初めてSharksに帰ってきました。それもミネソタWildの選手として！彼は数ヶ月前に突如トレードされて他の2人の選手と共にミネソタへ行ってしまったの。それで今夜が元チームメイト達と戦う初めての試合。セトグチくんだって行きたくてミネソタに行ったわけではないのだもの、複雑な感情があったと思うな。でもみんなプロだからね。大丈夫だったのでしょ。Sharksファンはセトグチくんに暖かい拍手・声をかけていましたよ。私なんて「セトグチくーん、ちょっとだけがんばってねえ！」なんて叫んでしまった。大丈夫、日本語で言ったから誰もわからなかったって。

We had a GREAT TIME at our seats. Drinking beer (not me, coffee for me), eating peanuts, talking loud, screaming, cheering, hugging, and etc. Well, with our sincere cheering, Sharks won with 3-1. Sorry, Seto but Sharks rule! What a great night it was. I was so excited and thinking about it even in the dream. :) Let's do this again!
友人達ととても楽しく観戦しました。ビールを飲んで（私はコーヒー）ピーナッツを食べて、大声で話して、叫んで、応援をして、スコアしたらハグしあって。私達の真摯な応援のおかげで（かな？）見事3-1でSharksが勝ちました。ごめんね、セトグチくん。でもSharksは永久に不滅です。あー、なんて楽しかったこと。私は興奮して夢の中まで叫んでいました。又、行こうよぉ！

Since I enjoyed a lot of beautiful work at the Alameda show yesterday. I wanted to draw something. The leaves on the big tree in front of the house had some colored leaves so decided to draw them. A red one and green one. The red one is cuter. :)

The art show and bookstore

One of our friends Lynne had an art show at the Alameda Art Works which is a few minute drive from home. She is a mosaic artist and I always love her sense of colors. Beautiful!
友人のLynneがThe Alameda Art Worksで展覧会ををするので観に行きました。実はここ家から車で2～3分のところ。彼女はモザイクアーティスト。彼女の色の選択にはいつも感心します。きれいだなあ。

The place was much bigger than we had thought and there were a lot of artists and their work in the space.
この場所は思っていたより広くてたくさんのアーティストとその作品が並んでいました。

I do mostly water color but recently I am interested in Pastel work. I met a great pastel artist,
Stacey Nussbaum and her small daughter who was drawing there. I asked her if she does classes because I want to do pastel. She said she doesn't teach but I can come see her drawing some Sundays so that I can learn from it!!
私は普通水彩しかしないのですが、最近パステルにも興味を持っていました。そして今日ステキなパステルアーティストのStacey Nussbaum と彼女の小さなお嬢さんにお会いしました。（その子はそこでパステルで絵を描いてましたよ。）彼女の作品にとてもひかれたので、どこかで教えていないか聞いたら、教えていないけど、日曜日はここで描いているから見にきていいと言われました。見ながら学ぶこともあるしね、ですって。

Aren't they gorgeous? I love her dramatic strokes and romantic colors. I cannot wait to start my pastel drawing!
どうですか？素敵でしょう？ドラマティックなストロークとロマンティックな色使い。あー、私も早くパステル始めたい。

After we got out the show, we went to used book store where is next to the venue. We spent more than an hour there and enjoyed the books.
アートショウの帰りにそこの隣にあった古本屋さんにも寄りました。1時間以上もいました。

Ended up to buy seven books. Five for Steven and two for me. Yeah, ”Pastel painting techniques" and "Watercolor the wet technique" I know I am so easy to inspired by.
結局7冊もの本をご購入。Stevenが5冊、ワタシは2冊。そうなの。「パステルのテクニック」と「水彩のウェットテクニック」わかってます。私は影響されやすい人間なんです。わかりやすいでしょ。

Ox-tail Stew

The weather is getting cold and it is s stew season. Found some ox-tail at a Korean super market so ox-tail stew tonight. I got "the best wine under $10" awarded wine for this dish. $6.50. I drank some while I was cooking and it was not too bad.
だんだん寒くなってきてシチューの季節です。牛テールを韓国スーパーで見つけたので、今夜はオックステールシチュー。「＄10以下のベストなワイン」賞をとっている＄6.50の赤ワインで作りました。お料理中に飲みながら作ったけど、悪くなかったよ。

Happy Halloween! My favorite day has come! I baked cookies for my favorite trick or treaters. (Yes, just for my favorite neighbor kids. Not fair? Too bad!) I was a rabbit because this year was a rabiit year. Once in 12 years. You don't want to see me in a rabbit costume when I am 60, do you? So this is the last chance. I even went to a Halloween lunch in this atire. It was fun ! :)
ハッピーハロウィーン！私の大好きな日が来ました。おいしいチョコレートクッキーをお気に入りの子達用に焼きました。（そう。おなじみのお気に入りの子達だけね。不公平？人生そんなものです。）私はウサギの格好で。だってウサギ年だもの。12年に一回のチャンスですよ。次のウサギ年は私も60歳。まさかその歳でうさぎの帽子かぶってるのなんて、見たくないでしょ？実はこの格好でハロウィーンランチにも行ってしまった。楽しかったあ。

I think more than 30 perople knocked our door. Everybody was cute in their costume.
30人以上の子供達が家のドアをノックしましたよ。みんな凝った衣装でかわいかった。

However, this is the highlight of the night. Next door neighbors. Mr.D was a spider man and Ms.G was Rapunzel from Tangled!! Ohhh, sooooo cuuuuuute! She has been talking about her costume whole month of October. Her dress was made by her grandma. Of course they got my special cookies. :)
そして今夜のハイライト。おとなりのDくんとGちゃんです。DくんはスパイダーマンでGちゃんはディズニー映画の「Tangled」のラプンツェル。すごくかわいい！彼女は10月の声を聞いた頃からずっとこの衣装の話をしていたの。「ねえねえ、ミカコ、今年はね、ラプンツェルになるの。グランマが衣装を縫ってくれてるの。」とか「かつらはもう買ったよ。」とか毎日報告してくれて。もちろん彼らは私の特別なクッキーをゲットしました。

Brett's Birthday

We went to Brett's birthday party. How did we go? Walked for twenty seconds. Yeah, another neighbor's party which we love. I made tapenade+quail eggs and avocado mimosa ones. They were pretty good. There were another appetizers and very colorful on the table.
Brettの誕生会へ行きました。どうやって行ったでしょう。20秒歩いてです。そう、又もやご近所さんのパーティーでした。私はタペナード＋ウズラの卵、アボカドクリームのミモザをバゲットに乗せた前菜を作りました。わりといけました。テーブルには他のお料理も並んでカラフル。

We had a nice "adult" time with "adult" drinks this evening. Yeah, no kids running around.
今日は「大人」のドリンクで「大人」の時間。そう、走り回る子供は今日はいません。

After this glass, I was drunk and walked funny. I know I am a cheap date.
その大人のドリンク一杯で酔っ払い、千鳥足でした。そーそー私は「チープデート」なのです。一杯で酔っ払ってくれるお酒に弱いデート相手のことをそういうんですよ。お金がかからないでしょ。やーね。

Mr. kids magnet was a dog whisperer today. Look at the dogs on his lap. "Feeeeel soooooo gooooood!!"
いつもは子供がすぐよってくるキッズマグネットのStevenは今日は犬マグネット。彼の膝の上で気持ちよさそうですよ。

Chocolate cake for a birthday boy. He is a VERY nice person with a warm heart and we love him! Happy Birthday, Brett!!

I baked blueberry scones at 7 in the morning today. I felt like it. That's all. Result:Warm scones for breakfast. Ohhhhhh...
朝7時からブルーベリーースコーンなど焼いてしまった。そういう気分だった。それだけです。結果：あったかいスコーンの朝ごはん。おぉぉぉぉ。

I haven't posted my cooking pics for a long time. My sis thought I was not cooking. Yes, I have been cooking!
お料理の写真をずいぶんポストしてなかったので、妹が私がお料理してないと思ったらしい。いえいえ、ちゃんとしてますよ！

Japanese food day: Grilled miso marinated salmon, grilled eggplant with black sesame sauce, yamaimo with plum sauce and bonita flake, spinach and tofu miso soup and brown rice. I know I have Provencal table mat with Japanese food. Oh well.
和食の日：お味噌に鮭を漬けました。焼き鮭にして。ナスの黒ごまよごし、山芋の梅かつお和え、ほうれん草とお豆腐のお味噌汁、そして玄米。そうなの、プロバンス柄のテーブルマットの上で和食してしまいました。まあ、いいか。（良くない）

Italian food day: Beef and vegetable stew with Italian herbs and Spaghetti alle Vongole (Spaghetti with clam sauce.)
イタ飯の日：牛と野菜のイタリアンハーブシチューとボンゴレ。

French food day: Coq au vin (Red wine braised chicken and veggies)
フラ飯の日：Coq su vin (チキンの赤ワイン煮）

Grill day: Corn, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, soy marinated Kinki fish and shishito peppers by Steven.
グリルの日:グリルはStevenにおまかせ。コーン、芽キャベツ、焼き芋、キンキの幽庵漬け、シシトウ。

I did very first knitting this fall. Cute scarf for my little buddy. Yeah, it gets cold in the morning and the evening in Bay Area.
今秋初めての編み物もしたよ。かわいいあいつにかわいいスカーフ。そう、ベイエリアは朝晩冷えてきています。

Sun flowers looks out of season now. After I enjoyed the flowers in the vases, I usually cut the stems and put only the heads in the water on the dishes like this. Bye bye summer, I enjoyed you very much.
ひまわりも季節はずれに感じます。花瓶で楽しんだ後のお花は茎を切ってお皿に水を張ってこんな風に最後まで。さよなら夏、とても楽しかったよぉ。

Kaori's Pho Challenge

She is Kaori, my friend from my running team and she is signing a waiver for Pho Challenge. The challenge is you need to eat 2lb pho noodle and 2lb meat in one hour. If you win, the pho is free and you get the big bowl you used and a trophy. If you lose, you need to pay $22 and get a T shirt. She is smiling because this is "Before" picture.
この彼女は私のランニングチームのお友達かおりさんですが、ベトナムフォーチャレンジの前に同意書にサインをしているところです。チャレンジの内容は900gの麺と900gの牛肉を1時間で食べるというもの。勝てば、Phoは無料、使った丼とトロフィーをお持ち帰り。負けた場合はPhoの代金＄22をお支払い、Tシャツもって帰んなさいよ。というもの。この写真は彼女のこの夜、最後の微笑み。なんたってビフォーの写真ですもの。

Her friends got together and cheered and supported her. Look at the huge bowl I am holding. This is the one she is eating from. Notice: The small on on the left is a "regular" size bowl.
彼女のお友達が集まって応援しました。私が抱えている丼を見てください。これで彼女は食べるんですよ。注：その左側にある小さな丼が「普通」サイズのものです。

My regular size Pho was pretty good.
ワタクシの普通サイズのPhoはおいしかったですよ。

The guy at the restaurant told us rules and gave her a tip which is holding noodle on the edge of the bowl. You don't want the noodle soaked in the soup because they get fat and make the challenge harder.
お店の人からルールなどの説明があり、成功の鍵などを教えてもらいました。丼のふちにお菜ばしで麺を引き上げといて食べると、麺がスープを吸わずに食べやすいとか。ほんま？

She tried VERY hard and it was impressive. Look how she did in one hour. She couldn't finish in time but she ate 80% of it. Wow....it was 4LB worth of food!! Great job, Kaori!
すごかった。彼女は1時間、ずいぶんがんばって食べました。スタート時とフィニッシュ時の中身の違いをご覧下さい。80％は食べちゃったよ。すごい、2キロ近くのお料理ですよ。かおりちゃん、よくやった。

We ordered fried bananas and ice cream for dessert. Of course she had some, too!! Amazing!
I had a great time tonight. A really great time. Even walking down on the Castro Street in a cool air was enjoyable.
みんなでデザートにバナナの揚げたのとアイスクリームを頼みました。もちろんかおりちゃんも召し上がっていましたよ。すごいでしょ。あー、楽しいひと時でした。本当に楽しかった。Castro Streetを涼しい夜風に当たりながら歩くのさえ楽しかった夜でした。:)

Made a fruit salad. I also made mango+lemon sauce and mix with them. That is why they are shiny. We brought this to a Dessert party held at three house away. Yes, another neighbor paaaarty!!
フルーツサラダを作りました。マンゴとレモンのソースを作ってフルーツに混ぜたのでツヤツヤ。これを持って3軒となりにデザートパーティーに行ってきたの。そ、又もやご近所パーティーです。

This is for Bill who moved Texas recently and he came back for a short time for his biz. We all had a great chat and GREAT desserts Cheryl made.
パーティーは最近テキサスに引っ越したBillが出張のためにちょっと戻ってきたので皆で集まったのです。楽しく歓談、Cherylの作ったおいしいデザートをいただきました。

Kids were nice and quiet in the next room watching a movie. They are my favorite kids on the block D & G. D will be Rapunzel this Halloween and she won't go anywhere withoug her Rapunzel doll. How cute is that!!
子供達はおとなしく隣の部屋でシュレックを見てました。この子達は私の近所のお気に入りのかわいい二人、DくんとGちゃん。Gちゃんは今年のハロウィンはラプンツェルになるんですって。どこへ行くにもラプンツェル人形を連れて行くのよ、かっわいい！

I also made sock puppets for Steven. Why does he need the pupeets? I will tell ya later. Hey, you guys, stay away from my dearest Moomin!!
そうそう、この靴下パペットも作りました。Stevenのリクエストで。何でかって？それは又、のちほど。ちょっと、あんた達！私の大事なムーミンに触らないでね！

Japanese cucumber plant is gone but I kept some leaves to draw. I LOVE leaves.
キュウリも季節が終わり引き抜きました。でもきれいな葉っぱだったので、お絵かきように取っておきました。葉っぱって好き。

San Jose Rock 'n' Roll 2011

We are here! This is the pic 20 minutes before the start. Kaori, Nami, Kenko and I are all excited!
いよいよ、来ましたよ！この写真はスタート20分前の写真です。かおりさん、菜巳さん、健吾さんと私はみんなエキサイトしています。

Kaori and I started from the same coral since our numbers were close. We are still in high tension and waiting for the start. 13000 people will run today.
かおりさんと私はゼッケン番号も近かったので、同じコーラルから出発しました。二人ともハイテンションでスタートを待っています。今日は13000人も走るんですって。

We are waving to Nakano san, the photographer and our coach. :)
かおりさんと私は写真をとって下さってる（そしてコーチの）なかのさんに手を振っています。

The cooler weather helped but I was amazed that I was in a great condition in this race. While I was running, I was thinking my great supporters and running tips they gave me and it made me smile all the way. I actually ran with a big grin!! I also enjoyed the bands playing every mile. Yeah, Rock 'n' Roll, baby!!
涼しい天候も手伝ったけれど、このレースは本当に調子がよかった。走っている間はサポートして下さったみんなの顔や教えていただいた事など思い出しながら走っていたため、ニコニコしてずっと走ってました。絶好調だったし本当にニヤニヤして走っていたと思う。1マイルごとに演奏してるバンドも楽しみながら、走りました。Yeah,ロックンロールだぜ、ベイビー！

At the 10 mile point where 4 blocks from my house, Taicho&Naomi san, Alice san, Linh and Steven were there for us!! I was still pretty good shape and was able to smile to them.
The last 3 miles were not so easy as the first 10 miles but I even raised my pace in the last mile!! Can you believe this?
10マイル地点（ウチから4丁ほどのところ）では西村ご夫妻、ありすさん、リンちゃん、そしてStevenが応援して下さいました。この地点でも調子よくみんなに笑顔で「ありがとう」をいう余裕がありました。最後の3マイルはそれまでとはちょっと違い、ぜーぜーしちゃったけれど、最後の1マイルはペースを上げて走ったほどだったの！信じられます？

We did it! My time was 2:04:28 which is my Personal Record. Wow, it was 2:30 last year and I did great this time. We all happy with our results and showing the medals. Thank you Nakano san for the pictures and driving us (and back) to the race.
やったあ！私は自己最高記録の2:04:28。すごい、去年は2時間半もかかったのに、今回はよくやった。みんなそれぞれの結果に満足してメダルを見せている写真。たくさんの写真を撮って下さり、しかも私たちをレース地点まで送り迎えをして下さった、なかのさんありがとうございました。

When we got home, everybody was there to congratulate us and Steven was very busy cooking (Thank you, honey!) and PARTY TIME!!!! Steven made Paella, too and they brought some yummy food and there were several dishes I made yesterday so we had a lot of food and booze!!
私たちがウチに戻るとみんな待っていて、おめでとうを言って下さいました。Stevenはお料理に大忙し。（ありがとう、ダーリン！）さあ、パーティータイムだよ。Stevenはお得意のパエリアまで作ってくれるし、色々と持ってきていただいたもの、私が昨日のうちから作っていたものなどで、テーブルはいっぱい。

Ate, drunk and laughed a lot, we runners needed to take some nap. Our lawn was good for that! We had a lot of fun.
大いに食べ、大いに飲み、大いに笑って、私達ランナーはお昼寝タイム。芝生は格好の場所でした。ケッコー、ケッコー。

Picked up my bib for San Jose Rock 'n' Roll

Here it is! I picked up my bib at Expo today and ready to rock 'n' roll on Sunday. I have trained for this for almost 4 months and I felt great when I did the last 2 mile run this morning. My # is 7515 and I love this number for a some reason. Sumiko san called me to wish me luck already and she said "Eat chicken livers, Mikako san!" She has been my big support since I started running (well she is the one who pulled me in this dangerous world :) so I listen to her VERY CAREFULLY. Yep, I have been eating chicken livers. In addition, I have another big supporters this year. I joined a running team since the end of May and I have been running with them twice a week. Some of them are super fast and when I run with them, I run faster than I usually do. Well, run with them for a little bit and go back my pace though. I would say I became a strong(er) runner. They have sent me wishes and the folks I run with on Wednesdays will even come to the race to cheer us (other three friends and me) on!! And last but not least, Steven is always supportive and he sends me off with a smile when I go for my run including long weekend runs. He may say to himself after I leave, "Jeez, I didn't get married to a runner wife. She is running AGAIN?!" Well, thank you for your support, honey.

はい！今日ゼッケンを取りにいって、あさってのSan Jose Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathonへの準備は万端。ここ4ヶ月ほどこのためにトレーニングをして今朝、最後の2マイルランをしたら調子よかった。ゼッケンは7515でなぜかこの番号好き。5が好きかな、２つつながってGOGO! ですもの。すみ子さんからは今週はじめにすでに電話で応援していただいてるし、「今週は鶏の肝食べるのよ、美加子さん！」というアドバイスまで。すみ子さんは私が走り始めてからずっと私の大きなサポートなので、（というか、彼女が私をこの危険な世界に引きずりこんだんです。）彼女のいいつけはきちんと守って食べています、鶏の肝。その上、今年は新しいサポーターも。5月の終わりにランニングチームに入って週に2回ほど彼らと走っているのですが、このチームに異常に早い方々がいて、そんな彼らと走っているとつられて私も速くなるの。（所詮、最初の1～2マイルだけであとはバテて自分のペースに戻っちゃうけれど。）それでも私は強いランナーになったと思う。みなさんから応援のメッセージをいただき、水曜日に一緒に走っているみなさんは私達（3人のメンバーと私が走ります。）のためになんとレースまで応援にかけつけて下さるの。ありがとうございます！そしていつも走りに出かける時そして週末のロングランに出かける時も笑顔で送ってくれるStevenは私の大きなサポーターです。でも、私の出かけた後に「あんだよ、オレはランナー妻と結婚したおぼえはないぞ。”又”走りに行ったよ！」と言ってるかもね。いひひ、いつもありがとう。

We threw a thank you party for the supporters after the race so I arranged some flowers like my mom does when she invites people over. Is this OK, mom?
レース後には応援に来て下さる方、一緒に走りメンバーを招いてウチでパーティーをするので、お花を生けました。ママがお客様をお呼びする時にいつもしているように。母上、これでいいでしょうか？うーんちょっと投げ入れチックですね。

Steven's Fireplace Mantel

Yes, I was supposed to paint the mantel but I was a little busy with work and other stuff. One day when I came home, Steven was painting it. We usually share some works on our projects and say, "WE made this." but for this mantel....He made this so this is Steven's mantel.
はい、私がマントルの色塗りをすることになっておりました。でもお仕事やちょっと他の事で少し忙しかったの。ある日帰ってみると。Stevenがペンキ塗りしてました。普通は大体のプロジェクトで仕事をシェアして、「私たちが作りました」というのだけれど、これに関しては「彼が作りました。」というわけで、これはStevenのマントル。

Santa Cruz, CA

Santa Cruz is the first place I visited in US. Well, the first place I visited outside of Japan. It was 27 years ago and I still remember how fast I fell in love with this cute little beach town. At that time, I stayed here for three weeks. Then came back for a week after 7 years later and again came back after 14 years later and I never left ! Well, I am not living in Santa Cruz but am 40 minutes away from there.
Santa Cruzは私がアメリカで初めて訪れた場所。というよりはじめての外国でした。27年も前のことでこの小さなビーチタウンに急速スピードで恋に落ちたのを今でも覚えています。その時は3週間の滞在で、その7年後に1週間滞在して、14年後に又、戻ってきてそれからずっといるという。いえ、今はSanta Cruzには住んでいないけれど。車で40分もせずに来られます。

Wharf is the special place in Santa Cruz. When I had a hard time or missed Japan, I came here and looked at the ocean. I am from a little beach town also so this sea breeze comforts me. I still come here once in a while and this place still welcomes me and makes me happy. Very happy.
WharfはSanta Cruzの中でも私にとって特別な場所。つらいことがあったり、日本が恋しくなるとここにきて海をみていました。同じく小さなビーチタウン出身の私は海風を感じると落ち着く。今でも時々ここに来るけれど、この場所は今も私をやさしく迎えてくれて幸せな気持ちにしてくれます。すごおく幸せな気持ちに。

Well, it is not the same if I didn't meet my host family in Santa Cruz. They are the reason why I come back here so many times. This pic is very old and my host sisters are pretty ladies now. They refer me as a oldest sister. :) I feel the same.
まあ、ホストファミリーに出会わなければ、Santa Cruzがこれほど私に特別な感情を抱かせなかったでしょうけれどね。彼らが私をSanta Cruzに連れ戻した大きな理由ですから。この写真はずいぶん古いけれど、私のホストシスター達。今はみんな魅力的なLadyになってるのよ。いつも私を「一番上の姉」として慕ってくれる彼女達。私も同じ気持ちです。

Santa Cruz is not always sunny and warm so we need warm drink some times. Now I am perfectly contained.　Santa Cruz is my home town for my heart.

Halloween Decoration 2011

I know, I know. It is only September and it is too early to do this. HOWEVER I love this event and couldn't wait to decorate our newly colored house and I can enjoy the decoration for a month! Is it great or what? Steven said, "whatever, honey."
はいはい、わかってますよ。まだ9月だからハロウィーンには早いって。しかしながら、このイベントが大好きな私は飾りつけしたくてしょうがなかったの。外壁を新しく塗った我が家はどうなるかなあと思ってさ。それに早くしたら、それだけ長い間楽しめるでしょ。いい考えじゃない？Steven:「…好きなようにしていいよ。」

I got strange shaped pumpkins this year and I am not even sure if I can curve these. The smallest green pumpkin is Kabocha from my garden.
今年は変わった形のかぼちゃを購入。これってカービングできるのかも定かではありません。緑の小さいのは日本のかぼちゃでウチの庭からのです。

New addition to the decoration is this door wreath. I made it yesterday! Talking about colorful....

Fireplace Mantel and Tomatoes

This is our mantel, no it WAS our mantel. Yes, Steven did it again!
これがウチのマントルです。いえ、ウチのマントル「でした」。そう、Stevenがまたやっちゃいました。

He wanted to add more character to the fireplace. Added columns and molding. I call it "Parthenon".
暖炉にもっと面白味をつけたかったらしく、柱や飾りをつけました。私は「パルテノン神殿」と呼んでいます。

Isn't it gorgeous? The amazing thing is he didn't use a kit or anything. He designed and cut the boards and Voila! Mantel is done! He sanded it to get smooth surface. My husband can do ANYTHING!!! Now it is my turn to paint it.

ゴージャスなマントルが出来上がったでしょ。驚くべきことは出来合いのキットとか全く使わずにデザイン、そして木を切ってここまで作ったんです。やすりをかけてすべすべの表面に。うちのオットは何でもできちゃいますのよ。さてっと、これからはワタクシの出番。色塗りです。

Oh, by the way, our tomatoes are doing fabulous this year. Look at the beauties!

New Team Shirt & Surprise party

I was working on making team shirts for my running group and they are done! Today, we are going to run in them!! I am trying to show the design on the back.
所属しているランニンググループのチームシャツを作るのをお手伝いしていましたが、やっとできたよ！今日はそれを着て走ります。私が変なカッコしてるのは背中のデザインを見せるため。

Here are the close up. Aren't they nice? It took a long time to make but we did it!
これがクロースアップ。いい感じでしょ？すいぶん時間がかかりましたが、満足のできばえ。

This is for a baby!! Isn't it the cutest thing? I almost stole and hid it.

We also had a surprise birthday party at bowling lanes. Look at the bouquet I made for her. We surprised her with the bouquet, cake and gift. It was FUN !!
実はこの後、ボウリング場で女性メンバーのサプライズ誕生会をしました。見て見て、花束は私が作ったんだよ。お花、ケーキ、そしてプレゼントで彼女をびっくりさせ大成功。おもしろかった！

Monterey Jazz Festival

Monterey Jazz Festival is on this weekend. I couldn't go there so decided to listen their streaming music on the lawn with wine. The music is actually live from the Monetery. Feel like I was laying on the grass in Monetery. Steven is still making mantel so I ran away from the dusty room.
モントレージャズフェスティバルが今週末行われています。行きたいけれど行けないので庭の芝生の上で、インターネットでストリーミングライブを聞いてその気になります。ワインもね。音楽は実際に今、モントレーで演奏されているもののライブなので、本当にモントレーのフェスティバルで芝生に寝転んできいている感じなの。Stevenはまだ、マントルを作っているので、ほこりがすごい。それで外へ逃げて来ちゃったというわけ。

Mr. Gnome keep the company so I gave some pistachios. We were listening to jazz series called"Dream of Monk" with him. He was a wonderful person to be with and I appreciated his company. :)
ノームさんがお供をしてくれたのでピスタチオをあげました。
「モンクの夢」と題されたジャズシリーズを一緒に聞く。彼は一緒にいてとても楽しいヤツでした。よかったわ。

Farmer's Market and hinges

This is the stuff we got at Sunnyvale's Farmer's Market today. Levain Bread, Tofu, snake beans, corns, yams, italian bloccori, peaches, nectarines, Salmon, Ono, Moroheiya and flowers!
これはSunnyvaleのファーマーズマーケットで手に入れたものです。Levainブレッド、豆腐、スネイクビーンズ、コーン、さつまいも、イタリアンブロッコリ、桃、ネクタリン、サーモン、Onoという魚、モロヘイヤそしてお花も。

We grilled peaches and it wa sooooo good. Next time, we will have it with ice cream.
桃をグリルしたらさらに甘くなっておいしかったあ。次回はアイスクリームと一緒にいただきたいです。

Hinges for the shutter arrivved and they look very nice!!
シャッターにつける金具（飾りです。）も来ました。とても素敵。

Peach Blueberry Banana Bread

I baked banana bread with peaches and blueberries. I baked the same bread last week and it went well so I did it again. I reduce 1/2 sugar from the recipe when I made last week and it was good but it was a little bit too sweet for me. This time I reduced it to 1/3 and I found out I shouldn't have :( It was not sweet at all.
ピーチとブルーベリーを入れたバナナブレッドを焼きました。先週焼いたときにかなりうまくいったので、いい気になってまた同じものを。そのときお砂糖を1/2カットして作ったら好評で、でももう少し甘くなくてもといいと思ったので1/3にカットしたら…がっくし、甘さがあまりにも少なくて失敗。

I made frost and dizzle it on the bread so that the bread get some sweetness. Not bad.
しょうがないのでフロストを作って上からかけたらいい感じ。これでお友達にも持って行けます。:)

12mile Run and Summer Vegggie Garden Party

Less than one month to my next half marathon. I ran 12 miles at Stevens Creek Trail with my running group, BAJR. I thought I coudn't make it but the team members cheered for me and yes, I did 12 miles (well, it was 11.6 actually)! Thank you guys!! The pace was 9:32. If I can keep this pace, I could finish the half marathon in 2 hour 4 mins!! I may be able to make a personal record?!
次のハーフマラソンまで、一ヶ月を切りました。それで今日はランニンググループのBAJRの皆さんとStevens Creek Trailを12マイル走りました。最後はきつくてもう止まりそうになりましたが、みなさんから支えられ、ゴール！ありがとうございました！ペースは9:32/mile。もし、このペースが保てれば2時間4分くらいで完走できるの。もしかして今回は個人記録をぬりかえるかも…よ。皆さんと走るようになって速くなりました。うれしい。

We also had a neighor's party this evening. It was Summer garden veggie party. Everybody made something using their veggies from their gardens! What a great idea! I made noodle salad with our garden tomatoes, green peas, shimeji mushroom. The sauce has sesame, vinegar, soy sauce, sugar and sesame oil. It was nice cold dish for a summer day like today.
夕方はご近所さんで又もやパーティーがありました。名づけて夏の菜園パーティー。みんな自分のウチでできたものを使ってお料理。いい考えだね。私が作ったのはお素麺にトマト、グリーンピース。しめじをまぜ、ごま、お醤油、お砂糖、お酢、ごま油をまぜたソースで和えたら、冷たくておいしい一品に。

There were pizza, tomato+mozzarella cheese, pies and more! We enjoyed all the veggie dishes.
他の人はピザ、モッツアレラチーズ＋トマトサラダ、その他を持ってきましたよ。

We enjoyed a lot!

ipizza at Apple was VERY good. We three shared two pizza. They have brick oven to bake this pizza in their yard.

Shutters

When we painted the house, the old shutters needed to go so we are having new shutters! We looked around but we didn't see what we want so we decided to make them. Can you believe all these long boards fit in my car? I needed to put the top down of course. Steven made these so quickly. I didn't even have time to take pics!
この間家を塗り替えた時、シャッターを取らなければいけなかったので、新しいシャッターをつけることにしました。色々みてまわったけど、中々気に入ったのがない。それで作ることに。この長い板が私の車に乗って来たって信じられる？もちろん屋根を取って乗せたけど。Stevenはこのシャッターをあっという間に作ったので、途中経過の写真を取る暇もなかった。

Steven's built-in workstation 2

Doors for workstation is unique. They are framed and a thin boards are attached from inside. It gives three dimensional look and more decorative than flat doors. The keyboard tray is pull-out. He stained well, too.
Stevenのワークステーションの続き。ドアはおもしろいデザインです。枠が組んであってそれに中から薄い板が貼ってあるの。深さが加わり、ただの平たいドアよりもおしゃれ。キーボードを置くところは引き出すようになっています。ステインもして色もいいね。

Steven : "Look at my masterpiece!!" Yes, honey, it is a beauty.
Steven：「私の傑作を見て！！」よくやった。素晴らしいです。

He also crawled under the house and pulled electric cables out (I have no idea how) and see, now the workstation has electricity!! Amazing!!
Stevenは床の下にもぐって電気のケーブルを引いて（どうするのか全く想像もできない。）ほら、ワークステーションに電力も。すごいよね！

The last touch was adding decorative handles. Yeah！The workstation is finished. I am so impressed by what he did. He started from designing and done in 10 days. Dad, the DIY master must be proud of his son when he sees this.
最後のかざりはこのかわいい取っ手。すごい！ワークステーションが出来上がりました。本当に作っちゃうんだものすごいです。デザインから始めて10日くらいでできたかな。DIYマスターのお義父さんが見たらさぞ自慢に思うでしょうね。

Camping at the Lake Tahoe 3

Steven made his speciality, blueberry pancakes.
キャンプ3日目の朝はStevenがお得意のブルーベリーパンケーキを焼いてくれました。

We left Tahoe before the roads get crowded but stopped at the Bridal Veil Fall. It is not the same as the one in Yosemite.

Steven drove all the way. I was just goofing around to entertain him.
Stevenがずっと運転してくれました。私がした事と言えば彼が眠くならないようにふざけたりするだけ。

OK. Are you ready for a mysterious story? We stopped at an Antique mall on the way back. It was a big place like a high school gymnasium. We walked around and enjoyed the antiques. Suddenly, one picture caught my eye. The small boy praying with a puppy. It was very familiar. Do I have this picture? No, I don't...I walked away and moved on to other stuff. But I couldn't take the old picture off from my mind....and "click" ! Is it the same picture on the first album of mine? Can't be...It was an album my parents got in Japan looooooong time ago. The picture is here in US. I still couldn't get rid of the "weird feeling" from my mind so I went back to the picture and took a photo of it. I screamed when I saw the picture on my album at home. It was the GIRL's version of the picture. I had goose pumps all over my body. I turned over my picture and I saw "Made in US" on the back. Was my album from US? I know you can buy a lot of "made in US" products in Japan but I don't think this particular one was sold in Japan. I emailed my mom to tell what I saw today and asked who got the album when I was born. She said her best friend who lives in US might have brought with her. I need to talk to her....Now I feel like I HAVE TO HAVE the boy's picture and meet to my girl's picture. Well, the store is 2 hour drive away from here....I have sent an email to see if they could mail the picture if I buy it. We will see...Is this a some kind of sign? I cannot just say "It is just a coincident." I feel that something is going to happen. Look at these pictures.
さて、ちょっと不思議な話をしてもいい？タホの帰りにあるアンティーク店によりました。体育館のように広い場所でアンティークを見て回っていたのですが、急にある絵が目に飛び込んできました。それは小さな男の子が子犬とお祈りをしている絵です。すごく懐かしい気がしたの。これ持ってるんだっけ？いえ、そんなことはないわね。不思議な気持ちのままそこから離れて他の商品を見ていました。でも、何だかあの絵がすごく気になって頭から離れないの。そして...「あっ！」あれって私の初めてのアルバムの表紙の絵と同じ？そんな訳ないか。だってあれはパパとママが私が生まれた大昔に日本で買ったもの。ここはUS。それでも気になって仕方がなくその絵に戻って写真を撮りました。
家に着いてから私のアルバムの表紙についていた絵を取り出し見ました。そして…叫んでしまった。それは今日アンティーク店で見た絵の女の子版だったのです。体中に鳥肌が立ってそれを裏返してみると…「Made in USA」の文字が。私のこのアルバムってUSから来たの？そりゃあ、アメリカ製品が日本でもたくさん手に入るのはわかってるけれど、これはそういう感じじゃないもの。ママにすぐにEmailしてこの話をして私が赤ちゃんの時、誰からあのアルバムをもらったか聞きました。答えはもしかして、アメリカに住んでいる彼女の親友からいただいたものかも…ということ。これはつきとめなくては。いづれにしてもあの男の子版を絶対に手に入れて私の女の子の絵と会わせたい。でも、お店はウチから2時間くらいかかる遠いところ。Emailをして買ったら送ってもらうことはできるかと聞いていることろです。それにしてもこれは何かのサインでしょうか？ただの偶然ではすませない気持ちなのです。何かが起こりそうな予感。まあ、下の写真を見て下さい。

Camping at the Lake Tahoe 2

The training schedule said running around the lake for 30mins from 7am. Oh, no! It is already 7:08AM. We are late, Steven!! When we entered the lodge, EVERY BODY WAS STILL SLEEPING. Looks like they had a little bit too much alchool last night. Steven and I walked Alice's dog. He was sooooo cute and I enjoyed the walk a lot.
合宿の予定では7時から湖のまわりを30分走るということ。あ、もう7:08AMだよ。Steven,私達遅刻だよ～。山荘に行って見ると皆さんまだお休みでした。どうやら昨晩、ちょっとお酒が過ぎたみたいね。Stevenと私はAliceさんのワンちゃんを散歩に連れていきました。もうとんでもなくかわいいの。楽しいお散歩でした。

Finally, everybody got up. Let's have breakfast!

でもね、これ見て下さい。傾斜ありすぎて走れない。走るのはあきらめてハイキングすることに。でも眺めは素晴らしかったのでした。

We tried to run at least on the flat part but no, there were space only 5 to 10 steps to run. This running team is hiking today.
平らなところがあれば走ろうとしたけど、だめ。5歩～10歩走ったら終わりになるの。ランニングチームは今日はハイキングをしています。

We came back to the lodge and party time!!! I made smoked fish+cream cheese dip + consome gelly. It was pretty good!!
山荘に戻って来て、パーティータイム！私は燻製のお魚＋クリームチーズのディップにコンソメジュレを乗せた前菜を作りました。結構おいしかったです。

Steven is grilling BBQ eels!! They liked his Japanese apron, too. There were A LOT OF food and we ate, drunk and laughed a lot. We definitely had more calories than the ones we used for hiking we did today. Oh well...
Stevenは外でうなぎを焼いています。日本のエプロンもほめられてました。すごい数のおいしい食事が並び大いに食べて、飲み、笑い…。これはハイキングで使ったカロリーをはるかに超えたカロリーを摂取しております。まあ、いいか。

It was a great gathering and I am so glad I joined this group. Thank you everybody for the wonderful time!!

Camping at the Lake Tahoe 1

We are now at the beautiful Lake Tahoe. It took us 4 hours + to get here and GREAT view!
私達は美しいタホ湖に来ています。4時間とちょっとかかったけど、素晴らしい景色！

We set up our tent and have some drink. Beer for Steven, iced tea for me. The last time we went camping was 4 years ago but we still remembered how to set up the tent. (just because it is super easy :)
キャンプ場についたら、テントをはって、一休み。Stevenはビール、わたしはアイスティーで。最後にキャンプにいったのは4年前だけど、テントのやり方覚えてました。（ただ、非常に簡単だからだけど。）

We grilled chicken and veggies for dinner and they were so tasty. Is it because we had them outside with clean air? Maybe....The green Shishito peppers are from our garden and eggplants are from Cheryl's garden. Yes, they are Norton veggies. :)
チキンとお野菜をグリルして晩御飯に。こんなにおいしいのは空気がきれいだからでしょうか？かもね。シシトウはウチの菜園から。おナスは近所のCherylのところから、みんなNorton Ave 育ちなの。

Oh, and we are here because we are joining my running team training camp. We dropped some food for tomorrow's party at the lodge. They are the members on the first night. Tomorrow we are going to have more people.
そうそう、今回はタホに来たのは私の属しているランニングチームの合宿に参加するためでもあるのです。私は明日の土曜日だけの参加ですが、山荘に明日のパーティーの食べ物を冷蔵庫に入れに来ました。これが最初の日のメンバー。明日になるともっと増える予定です。

Steven's built-in workstation 1

Steven is taking two week vacation and decided to make a built-in workstation from scratch. He is not using any kits or pre-made funiture. He even designs it? Ohhh, I don't know....He is very ambitious...
Stevenは2週間のお休みを取ってビルトインのワークステーションを作るんだって。それもキットは使わずに全てゼロから作るんだって。デザインもね。ええええ？大丈夫？それって無謀じゃないの？

Day 1:Well, at least he put up some plywood and made some holes for his cables.
一日目:プライウッドが壁についたみたいですよ。ケーブルを通す穴もできました。

Day 2: He stained the boards and put a board for his desktop.
二日目:板を全てステインして机になる部分の板も切りました。

Meanwhile, I stained this and voila! Kitchen counter!! We bought a door, I stained it and it fits perfectly here!
私はといえば、裏で板をステインしていました。ほら！新しいキッチンカウンター。ドア用の板を買ってやすりをかけ、ステインしたんですよ。

I fold laundry, read books, draw, cut fabrics to sew and even have my breakfast and snack on this counter! この上で、洗濯物をたたんだり、読書をしたり、絵を描いたり、ソーイングのための布を切ったり、朝ごはんやスナックもここでいただくことがあります。

OK. Go back to Steven's workstation.
はい、Stevenのワークステーションに戻りましょ。

Day3: He put in supports for desktop and stained the whole thing.
3日目:机を支えるベースを作ったり、残りの板もステインしたり。

Day4:He started working on the doors. The doors are going to be unique ones. I like the hinges he is using here. They look like midieval doors, don't they?
4日目: 今日はドアをやっています。これもおもしろいドアになる予定です。ここで使われているちょうつがいがいい感じでしょ？中世のドアみたいじゃない？

Well, honey you need to take a break here because we are going to Lake Tahoe for camping tomorrow!! :)
でも、ここでちょっと一息ついてね。だって、明日からタホ湖にキャンプだもん！！

BBQ eel

Steven is going to grill BBQ eel for my running team this weekend so he needed to practice. Mmmm, good job, honey. It was very tasty.
Stevenは今週末に私の参加しているランニングチームのメンバーにうなぎを焼くことになっているので、ちょっと予行練習。あー、おいしい。よくできました。

Cold tofu with ginger went well with the eel.
冷奴も生姜と青ネギでいただきました。

Tuna+natto and yellow tail with sesame sauce were tasty appetizers. My sesame sauce was pretty good.
マグロ納豆の山かけとハマチのごまソース和えもよくできました。私のごまソースワリカシいけるわん。

Pho lunch and vegetable garden

I had Pho for lunch today at my favorite Pho place in Sunnyvale. I think this place serves the best Pho around here.
今日のお昼は私のお気に入りのSunnyvaleにあるPho屋さんに行きました。ここのはこの辺で一番おいしいPhoだと思う。

Around the same time, Steven was eating "delivery Pho" at his Palo Alto office. Delivery? Hmmm... I don't know Pho is good in delivery container. Steven says"Oh, it is pretty good!" They deliver noodle and soup in separate containers and soup is still hot. That is what he says. I don't know. I am still skeptical about it. Sorry Steven, but I am sure the Pho I had today was much better.
同じ頃、StevenもPalo AltoのオフィスでデリバリーのPhoを食べていました。デ、デリバリー？うーん、どうでしょ。デリバリーの容器に入ったPhoって。Stevenは「いや、案外おいしいよ。」と言っていますが。私はちょっと信じられない。ごめんよ、オット。私の食べたPhoの方がずーっとおいしかったと思う。Stevenの食べたPhoはこちらから。

I walked around our tiny back yard with happy Pho filled stomach. The tomatoes are gorgeous. Sweet and tender. Japanese cucumber plant is still growing and producting a lot of cucumbers. Our Shishito tree has green and red Shishitoes.
Phoで満たされたお腹でご機嫌な私はお庭を歩いて野菜たちをチェック。トマトは素晴らしい出来で、甘くて柔らかい。きゅうりのツルは未だに成長していてきゅうりがたくさん出来ています。シシトウの木にはなぜか緑と赤のシシトウが同じ木に。おもしろい。

This is a new addition to our garden. It is from Yamagami Nursery. I just love white flowers. Much better than red roses...
これは庭の新しい仲間。白いあじさい。ヤマガミナーサリーから買ってきました。白い花って本当にいいなあ。大好き。真っ赤なバラよりずっと好き。

House Painting

Our windows and plants are all covered with plastic cover. Guess what we are doing?
ウチの窓や植物にビニールカバーがかかっています。何をしているんでしょう？

House painting!!! The base color is this...olive green? The paint name is "bay leaf". Two guys are working on it.　家壁の塗り替えです！ベースの色はこちら。オリーブグリーンかな。ペンキの名前は「ベイリーフ」2人のお兄さん達がやってくれてます。

The accent color is brownish red, called "Brick". What do you think? First, I was shocked with the contrast of the two but now the paint dried and has a darker color. I think I like it. We call it "Christmas House"
アクセントカラーは茶色っぽい赤。ペンキの名前は「レンガ」どう思います？最初はこの2色のコントラストにショックを受けましたが、今はほら、ペンキも乾いてきて暗めの色になり、いい感じかも。クリスマスハウスと呼んでいます。

See, not bad...the vase branches were in is Japanese antique wooden bucket. I love this.
ほら、悪くないかも。ちなみに枝が入っている入れ物は日本の骨董で木のバケツ。かなり気に入っています。

Friends from Florida

We went to Salinas to see our friends and their kids from Florida. We had not met them for 6 years and we were so surprised how big the boys became!!
Salinasへフロリダから来た旧友と子供達に会いに行きました。6年ぶりだったので、ボク達が大きくなっていることといったら！

We went to Greens in San Francisco for brunch. I love this restaurant. They are right on the Marina so you can see the boats coming in and out.
GreensというSFのレストランへブランチへ。このレストラン大好き。マリーナのすぐ側なので船が出たり入ったりするのが見えて素敵。

Well, today was not so great to look out but still nice to see beautiful boats. It is already 2pm and still dark...
まあ、この天気ですから、（２PMでこれ）今日は港を楽しむ感じじゃないね。でもきれいなボートを見るのは楽しい。

I had poached eggs on polenta with chanterelle mushrooms and it was GREAT. They never disappoint us. Their ingridents are always local and fresh. Steven's potato cakes was great, too.
私はポレンタの上にシャンタレルマッシュルームとポーチドエッグが乗ったものをいただきました。おいしかったあああ！ここはいつ来てもおいしいんです。材料が近くの農家から送られてくるのでとてもフレッシュ！Stevenのポテトケーキもおいしかった。

We had a great time talking and laughing till the evening. Nice to see old friends.
おしゃべりと大笑いの楽しい時間を夕方まで過ごしました。古い友人との再会はいいですね。

今日はね、楽しいランチの後、ステンシルをしました。どこにしたでしょう。

this cute Frenchy box I made with garbage wood in the garage. These boards were once used when Steven made flower boxes but he doesn't need them anymore. They were dirty and rotten partially and piled up in the corner of the garage. I washed, dried, painted, stressed them and they look like antique. I cut these boards with POWER TOOLS. (not steven, I did it!) I nailed them to make this box. Steven taught me how to ...but I did it! It said flower in French because I wanted to use them in our garden. The side has a "B" as in Burke.
このかわいいフレンチっぽい箱です。ガレージにあった廃材を使って私が作ったんです。この板はStevenが花壇を造っている時に使っていたけれど、もういらなくなったの。ドロドロで汚れていてちょっと腐った部分もあったけれど、それを洗って、乾かして、白に塗って、アンティークっぽく傷をつけてみました。そして何と電動のこぎりでブイーンと切って、（そう、私が切ったんですよ。）釘を打ってこの箱を作りました。やり方は教わったけれど、自分でしたのです！フランス語で「花」と書いてあるのは庭で使いたかったから。横にはBurkeのBの文字が。

Steven's working table and bathroom vanity

Steven made a foldable working table in the garage. It is very nice that the table gets flat on the wall and doesn't take any space. Easy to put it down and up. Good job, Steven!
Stevenがガレージの中に折りたたみ式のテーブルを作りました。ペッタンコになって壁にしまえるので、場所を取らずにとても便利。テーブルを上げたり下げたりするのも簡単です。ロックをはずして、テーブルをおろし、その上に座れるくらい頑丈にできています。Steven,よくできました！

This is what I did during he is working on the table. I didn't like the light color wood top of the vanity in the bathroom. I painted brown and see, it looks much better!
彼がテーブルを作っている間に私がしたのはこちら。バスルームの洗面台のトップが白木でいやだったので、茶色に塗り替えちゃいました。ほら、ずっといいでしょ。

Now these are the materials for my next project...Can you tell what I am thinking?

Trivet and pizza

We got a very nice gift for our new kitchen. Beautiful trivet. Love the blue color and lacy design. It is too pretty to keep in a drawer so I hang it on the wall. Wow, so nice. The blue tile above the gas range linked to this. LOVE IT!!! Thank you, Sumiko san and Bruce!
新しくなったキッチンにギフトをいただきました。何と美しい鍋敷き。この青がとてもきれいで、レース編みのような模様も素敵。引き出しにしまってしまうのはもったいないので、壁にかけることに。ガスレンジの横の青いタイルと色がリンクして素敵！すみ子さん＆Bruceありがとう！

Steven made another frame for me so I cut my favorite antique wrapping paper I bought at the antique market 2 years ago and glued them. The sun flowers are from farmer's market.
Stevenが又、フレームを作ってくれたので、 2年前に行ったアンティークマーケットで買った古い包装紙を切って並べて見ました。ひまわりはファーマーズマーケットから。

I made a pizza with Momotaro tomatoes from our garden. Other ingridents were mushrooms, onions, prosciutto and cheese. Mmmmm, good. The basil is from our garden, too.
桃太郎トマトが庭でよく育っているのでそれでピザを作りました。他の材料は玉ねぎ、椎茸、プロシュートとチーズ。おいしかった。バジルだってお庭からです。

Farewell Party

One of our neighbors is movin to Houston and we had a farewell party. I made a fruit tart with seasonal fruits. Pretty, isn't it? My shirt looks like this fruit tart, too. Same color pallet.
ご近所さんの一家族がHoustonに引っ越すことになったので、お別れのパーティー。私は季節の果物でフルーツタルトを作りました。きれいでしょ。あれ、私のシャツもタルトと同じような色だなあ。

We had some mexican food and desert time! I am serving my tart.
メキシコ料理をいただいた後のデザートタイム！私がタルトを切り分けています。

After this party, we took a picture in front of their house and they left with their packed car. 1 week road trip to Houston! It was VERY hard to say good by since they are great people....everybody shed their tears. Good luck, the Penningtons!!

dinners and snack

Some of my Japanese friends think I am cooking American food all the time since I live in US and have an American husband. Noooooo, I cook Japanese/Asian food 50 % of the meals. Tonight we had steam eggplant with black sesame sauce and Shiso, Gyoza, pickled vegetables and braised Okra, Tofu, bean curd and Tofu. I loved the pickled zucchini ! My kind neighbor brought some from her yard. Fresh and organic! Nothing better than that.
日本にいるお友達の中には私がアメリカに住んで、アメリカ人の夫がいるので、アメリカンな食生活を送っていると思っている人もいるけれど違いまーす！和食（アジア食）を50％の割り合いで作っています。Stevenも和食の大ファンなので。今夜は蒸しナスの黒ごまソースにシソを乗せた物、餃子、野菜の浅漬けをサラダ代わりに。それからオクラ、椎茸、揚げ、豆腐の煮たものをいただきました。ズッキーニの浅漬けがすごくおしいかった。お隣さんがお庭でできたズッキーニをたくさんくれたの。新鮮で無農薬！これ以上のものはないですね。

and roasted pork tenderloin with balsamic vinegar sauce. Good that it has been cool enough to use oven last a few days.
ブタひれ肉のロースト、バルサミコソース。ここのところオーブンを使えるほど涼しいので助かります。

Here is one more baking. Oatmeal bar with chocolate and caramel. Wrapped them using cotton yarn for a gift. そしてもうひとつオーブンで。オートミールバー、中にキャラメルとチョコレートがはさまっています。コットンの毛糸を使ってギフト用にラッピングもしました。

Morning run and World cup for Women's Soccer

I ran 9 miles with BAJR members in Shoreline Park at 7am. Most of them ran 12 miles but you know, I am not in that stage yet. My Smartcoach said 8 miles. Well, I was planning to do ８ miles and I made U turn on 4 miles spot by myself since other people were going further. It was a mistake. I got a lost on the way back and ran extra 1 mile. Oh well....Today was a special run because there was a women's world cup final in that afternoon so we ran wishing their victory and...

朝7時からBAJRのメンバーとShoreline Parkで9マイル走ってきました。他の人達は12マイルくらい走っていたのですが、私はまだそこまで長く走る時期ではないの。私のSmartcoachでは今日は8マイルの日ですから。いえ、そのつもりだったのですが、4マイル地点でみなさんと別れてUターンして帰ってきたら、迷ってしまい1マイル余分に走ることに。まあ、いいか。今日は特別なランでした。というのも午後にワールドカップの女子の決勝戦があるので、それの祈願もかねて走ったのです。私はJapanサッカーチームのTシャツを着てね。そして…

Mountain View Obon Festival

Went to Obon festival in Mountain View. This is the only time we wear Yukata (Japanese summer kimono) so need to take a picture.
Mountain Viewのお盆祭りに行ってきました。こんな時しか浴衣着れないからね。ちゃんと写真もとってと。

I tied my obi (sash) differently this year. It is called Miyako Musubi. The old coral hair piece is from my mom. Love this dark color. I also made a bag with Chrysanthemum print fabric for Yukata.
今年はみやこ結びという新しい帯結びに挑戦。珊瑚のかんざしはママからもらった年代物です。濃い色がお気に入り。菊の模様の手ぬぐいでバッグも作ったの。

A shot with Taiko drum. Ohhh, very festive! Steven is happy with Japanese beer. He looks nice in Yukata and with beer. Doesn't it look like a beer poster?
太鼓と一緒に写真を撮ってお祭り気分を盛り上げます。Stevenも日本のビールを飲んでうれしそう。なんだかビールのポスターみたいじゃない？

Grilled shishito was so tasty with soy sauce. The cucumber and tomatoes were sweet!!
シシトウのグリルに少しお醤油をつけました。きゅうりとトマトも甘くておいしい！

I made a Mango cream pie for neighbor's party. Looks nice!!!!!!
ご近所のパーティー用にマンゴクリームパイを作ったの。きれいでしょ！

4th of July block party

We had a 4th of July block party on out street. I decorated our front yard with red, white and blue. Gracie next door woke up early and combing her Rapunzel's hair. She is sooooooo cute.
アメリカ独立記念日のパーティー。家の前の道を交通止めにしてご近所さんみんなが集まります。ウチも前庭を赤、青、白でデコレーション。お隣のGracieも今日は早起きして、ラプンツェルの髪をといています。本当にかわいい子！

These guys are staring at a bounce house setting up. Men are the same in any generations, from left 52 years old, 18 years old, and 7 years old. Guys, there are a lot of things to do this morning. Get up and work!
この3人の男子はバウンスハウスが建てられてるているのをボヤーッと見ています。どの世代もメンズは同じですね。左から52歳、18歳、7歳です。ちょっとお、あなた達、今日は忙しいんだから、座ってないで、働いてね。

Bred made a cute street sign for the party. The reason it has Houston is that one of our neighbor families is moving there. The family is very nice family and has a cute boy and girl. We will miss them very much.
Bretがかわいいストリートサインを作りました。ヒューストンがあるのはご近所の一家族がそこに引っ越しちゃうから。この家族は本当にいい人達で、それにかわいい男の子と女の子がいるの。寂しくなるなあ。

Now we are setting up a tent. I put a "birthday boy" pin on Steven's back so that people can see it. He was getting a lot of birthday wishes. :)
さて、テントの設営が始まりました。Stevenの背中に「Birthday boy」のバッチをつけてあげました。それでたくさんの人から「おめでとう！」って言われてた。

Let's get the party started!! Appetizers are served. I made fig, blue cheese and pistachio on bagguet.
さあ、パーティーが始めましょ！アペタイザーが並びます。私はイチジク、ブルーチーズ、ピスタチオを薄切りバゲットに乗せたものを持っていきました。

Bike parade has started! The bikes/tricycles are all decorated with red, white and blue. Everybody is soooooo cute!
自転車パレードも始まりました。三輪車、自転車も赤、青、白に飾られて。みんなかわいい！

Rachel and Aki came and joined us! The busy blues man has a day off today.
RachelとAkiが来てくれました。忙しいブルースマンも今日はお休み。

More activities also started. We heard a lot of laugh and giggling all day.
他のアクティビティーも。一日中きゃあきゃあと大笑いが聞こえました。

Mo had a Oyster bar (and s red bull rocket) from Oyster girls and they were soooo good. They served Miyagi oysters and they were raw, steamed and grilled. The Oyster girl was VERY cute, too. Steven kept going back to the girl uh..no, the bar.
Moの前庭ではオイスターバーがオープン。（Red bullで作ったロケットもね。）The Oyster girlというケイタリング会社なんだけど、この日は「ミヤギ」という種類の牡蠣。生、蒸したの、グリルしたのとあって、ひゃーっ、おいしかった。このオイスターのお姉さんが超かわいかった。Stevenも何度もこのお姉さんのところへ、いえ、オイスターバーのところへ戻り、おいしくいただいてました。

Here comes the famous Norton Rocket car! The cars have rockets and the loop which the wire goes through. They are ready to rock!
さてさて、有名なNortonのロケットカーの始まり！それぞれにロケットとワイヤーを通すフックがつけられていて、準備万端！

Everybody got together and are watching the rocket cars. At the end of the course, there are hay barrels and rocket cars crashed into them. Booom!!

みんな集まってみています。コースの終わりにはわらのブロックが置いてあってそれにロケットカーがぶつかります。バーン！

There were cute dogs, too. I want a doggy!!!
かわいいワンコもたくさん。ワンコ飼いたいなあ。

We had a great time all day...
一日中、楽しく過ごしました。

Now, dinner time. I made salmon pasta. It was not just a salmon. I cured it with sugar, salt and lemon peel and baked salmon. Ohhhh, it was tasty.
さて、ディナータイム。私が持っていったのはサーモンパスタ。でも普通のサーモンじゃありやせんよ。お砂糖、お塩、そしてレモンの皮でマリネしたサーモンをオーブンで焼いたんだから。あー、おいち。

Before the sunset, there was a Pinata. Tyler pulled it too hard because it broke on only third kid. Yeah, candies!!
日没前にはピニャータ割りもありました。中にキャンディーがいっぱい詰まっていて、叩いて壊すというやつです。Tylerが引っ張りすぎて3人目の子供が叩いた後に壊れちゃった。お菓子がいっぱい！

We sit on our front porch and had dinner with listening to live music. Oh, I drunk margarita and sangria too much. The cup on my mouth tells how much. :)
家の前に座ってライブバンドを聞きながらディナーをいただきました。マルガリータとサングリアでちょっと酔っ払った。口にくわえたカップがそれを物語っております。

The last activity was fireworks on the street.
The summer has started!
最後は花火で締めくくり。

Birthday Dinner

I made dinner to celebrate Steven's birthday. His birthday is on 4th but we will have a big event on the street that day and we cannot have birthday dinner. So we celebrated a little early.
Stevenのお誕生日のディナーを作りました。本当は4日だけれど、その日はアメリカの独立記念日でご近所さんといつもの大イベントがあるので。早めにお祝い。

Scallop and sea urchin salad. Isn't it pretty?
ホタテとウニのサラダ仕立て。きれいでしょ？

As per Steven's request, I made steak au poivre with this recipe. It was pretty good. Perfect medium rare! The dessert was gateau de chocola with berries.
Stevenのリクエストでsteak au poivre、ペッパーステーキをこのレシピで。かなりおいしかったよ。焼き具合も完璧なミディアムレアでした。デザートはガトーショコラのベリー添え。

Wine Braised Beef Cheek

We found beef cheeks at Farmer's Market @ Campbell and tried braising it. The meat looks like a marble so I knew it is going to be good in braising. Salt & pepper, marinated it in wine with veggies for 4 hours. It could be overnight but I didn't have time. I want NOW!
Campbellのファーマーズマーケットで牛のほほ肉を発見。ワインの煮込みをすることに。お肉は大理石のように脂（かなあ）が混ざっているので煮込みには最適だと思いました。塩、ブラックペッパーを振って、お野菜と共にワインの中で4時間漬け込みます。本当は一晩でもいいのだけど、待てなかった！

After brown the meat, moved them into a cast iron pot. Saute the veggies and pout them on the meat. Reduce the wine marinade to simmer and pour into the cast iron oven. Cook it in the oven for 3 hours.
お肉に焦げ目をつけたあと、ルクルーゼなどの厚さのあるお鍋へ。お野菜を炒めたらそれもお肉の上にのせます。マリネ液のワインを弱火で煮詰めてそれもお鍋の中に。オーブンで3時間煮込みます。

Ohhhh, it was soft and had good texture to chew. Loved it!!
おー、柔らかくてそして噛むといい感じの食感。うまいっ！

The guy at the market said beef cheeks usually go to only restaurants. Next time I see this meat, I will buy a bunch and freeze them because it is rare to see at the market.
マーケットのお兄さんが頬肉はレストランに買われるのでいつもはないって言ってた。本当にめったに出会わないので、今度見かけたらいっぱい買って冷凍しようっと。

Dinner & concert for birthday!

No,no this is not a magazine shooting (What? Nobody asked?) This is me posing in a new dress I made yesterday. Today is my birthday and Steven will take me to a nice Italian restaurant in SF and a concert after that! I had to dress up!
いえ、いえ、これは雑誌の撮影ではありませんよ。（え？誰も言ってないって？）昨日作ったばかりのワンピースでポーズ取ってるところです。今日は私の誕生日で、Stevenがサンフランシスコのイタ飯に連れて行ってくれるって！そしてその後コンサートにも。ドレスアップしなくちゃねん。

We ate at this restaurant when Sumiko san had her birthday dinner. We had wanted to come here since.　このレストランはすみ子さんのお誕生日の時に来たことがあるのです。それ以来、来たかったんだ。

Appetizers are beef carpaccio and seared scallops. The carpaccio melted in the mouth. The scallops were cooked perfectly. The cooktail I am holding was strawberry mousse +bubbly Italian wine. Mmmm, tasty!
前菜はビーフカルパッチョとホタテ。カルパッチョは舌の上で溶けるほど、ホタテの方もいい焼き具合でおいしかった。私が持っているカクテルはイチゴのムースとイタリアンスパークリングワイン。んー、おいし。

Main dishes are three pasta dish and seafood grill. Butter poached lobster was still juicy and tasty. The dessert came with a little candle for my birthday! Good to be a birthday girl! :)
メインはパスタ3種とシーフードグリル。バターでポーチした伊勢えびが美味でした。デザートにはキャンドルが付いて来てお誕生日気分が更に盛り上がります。

Now, the concert. YMO, Yellow Magic Orchestra came to San Francisco! The venue was small so I could touch Sakamoto! Their music was great as usual. It was not kind of music Steven usually listen to but he had been a good boy sitting next me. Thank you, darling for a great birthday!
さて、コンサートの方はYMO。何とサンフランシスコにやって来たのです！会場は小さいところだったので、坂本教授にタッチできそうでした。いつものように素晴らしかった。Stevenがいつも聞く音楽とはちょっと違うけれど、いい子に隣で聞いてました。：）素敵なお誕生日をありがとう！

Kitchen is 99.5 % done!

We have some space at the entrance of the kitchen. I was hanging some herbs like this. Lavenders on the yellow wall is very Provencal, isn't it?
キッチンの入り口に少しスペースがあってこんな風にハーブなどを吊るしてしました。ラベンダーが黄色の壁に映って南仏風でしょ？

Well, we wanted to something more to this space so we made shelves! As usual, I painted them and Steven mounted them on the wall. Good team work. T-E-A-M, team!!
でも、なんかそこに何かつけたくなって、棚をつけることに。いつもどおり、ペンキ塗りは私、取り付けはSteven.うーん、ナイスチームプレイ!

Look how nice they are!! I put some antique kitchen tools I bought at the antique fair at Candlestick park. Some Japanese vases, too.　いいでしょ？Candlestickの骨董市で買った古いキッチン道具などを飾りました。日本の花瓶とかもね。

Steven decided to have professionals to do molding. Our house is old and some parts are not straight so it is hard to work on sometimes. Now, we have beautiful crown molding! I made a small curtains and they look good!
Stevenはモルディングをプロにおまかせることに決めました。ウチは古くて真っ直ぐでないところもあちこちあって、作業しにくいんです。そして、ほら！完成！私の作ったカーテンもつけて…いいじゃないですか。

Kitchen is 99.5% done! We love our kitchen! The espresso machine in the picture is new. The one we used to use made a great coffee but made a big mess on the stove and we don't want that on our new stove.
これでキッチンの99.5%ができあがり。かなり気に入っています。写真の中のエスプレッソマシーンはおNew.　前に使っていたやつはおいしいコーヒーができるのですが、ガスレンジをひどく汚すのです。それは新しいレンジには勘弁ということで、マシーンを購入。

だから、そこで待機しててね、古いマシーン。しばらく休んでね。

BAJR Party

見て、このフルーツおいしそうでしょ？

We went to a party of Japanese runners group I have joined lately. I carved the group name on the water melon and made a basket for fruit salad to bring. Can you see the running man is laughing?
日本人のランニンググループに最近参加したのですが、そのパーティーに行ってきました。グループ名をすいかに彫ってバスケットにし、フルーツを入れて持って行きました。一緒に掘ったランニングマンが笑ってるの見える？

The other dish I brought was Moroccan Chicken. I know, I know, this dish is getting a little old but it was first time for these people at the party.　そしてモロッコ風チキンも持って行きました。はいはい、これはもう見飽きるくらい作ってます。でもいいの。パーティーに来ていて皆さんとはお初にお目にかかるので。

There were a lot of good food and BBQ at one of the member's backyard. FUN!!
おいしい食べ物やBBQがたくさん。グループのメンバーの方の自宅で楽しいひととき。

I got to hold this cute baby.　She is too cute! Can I take her home?
かわいい赤ちゃんを抱っこさせてもらいました。かわいすぎる。連れて帰っていい？

This party was held for these three guys. The gentleman wearing a red vest and a had became 60 years old. It is a Japanese tradition to wear these for 60th birthday. Other gentlemen are leaving Bay area soon so it was a farewell for them. The cake was so cute. All the berries on it are laughing!
このパーティーはこの3人のために開かれました。赤いちゃんちゃんこの方の誕生日と外側のおふたりがベイエリアを離れるのでその壮行会。ケーキがすごくかわいいの。イチゴとブルーベリーが全部笑ってる！

The party had a workshop to prevent injure for runners, presentations, and a lot of laugh.
パーティーはランナーのためのワークショップや、プレゼンテーションもあり、笑いがあふれていました。

Wow, it was a big party!! I have never seen this many Japanese people at one party in US. I felt like I was in Japan!
まあ、こんなに大勢だったのね！アメリカでこんなに多くの日本人の方ばかりとパーティーでお会いしたのは初めて。何だか日本にいるような気分になりました！

Of course we ran next day because it is a running group! 8am at Sawyer Camp Trail. They ran 12 miles but I did only 7.5miles. Wimpy!
もちろん、次の日にはみんなで走りましたよ！ランニンググループだもん。午前8時にSawyer Camp Trailで。皆さん、20 km走りましたが、弱っちい私は12kmだけ。

Am Back home

I am back to US. It was rainy season in Japan so I was missing this sunshine. Oh, our tomatoes are getting bigger!
アメリカに戻って来ました。日本は梅雨だったので、この日差しが恋しかった。おっ！庭のトマトが大きくなってる！

Steven cleaned whole house before I got home and made breakfast for me!! Salmon bagel sandwich and cafe latte. Ohhh, it was tasty! Thank you, honey!
私が帰る前にStevenが家中を掃除してくれていました。さらに朝ごはんまで。サーモンベーグルサンドとラテ。おお、おいしい。ありがとう、Steven！

We have peaches, plums, strawberries in the garden! Even mushrooms...well, we wouldn't eat them because we don't know what kind they are...Hydrangeas are blooming beautifully. Mmmmmm, good to be home!
桃もプラムもイチゴも成長しています。キノコまで…。いや、食べないけどね。ナニモノかわからないから。アジサイもきれいに咲いて、あー、ウチはいいねえ。

Japan 4 : Dad's Memorial Day

The main reason I came back here was that June 11 is my father's 17th memorial day. This is a miniature version of the meal for dad. All veggies and no fish or meat. You cannot use even chicken/fish broth for the soup. Strictly vegetarian. Came from Buddhist monk food...I think. Each bowls is only 2 inch diameter.
帰国したメインの理由は６月１１日がパパの１７回忌だったから。こちらはごりょうぶぜん。精進料理なのでもちろんお出汁まで魚肉類はなし。一皿が５－７センチ直径くらいのかわいい器です。

Before our monk came, Takefumi headed to the mountain where my father passed away. He always climbed the mountain on this day every year, rain or shine. Mom wants him to join our prayer but I guess this is his way to pray for father. Well, even our monk said "That is fine! He can join us when he cannot climb anymore." I like our monk!! Girls are staying home and taking some goofy shots.
お坊さんがいらっしゃる前に岳史は山へ。パパが亡くなった場所まで登るのが彼の毎年の命日の過ごし方。雨天決行で。ママは仏事に参加してほしいようだけれど、これが彼式の供養でしょう。実際にお坊さんも「あ、いいんですよ。山に登れなくなった時に一緒にお参りされれば。」なんておっしゃる。まあ、なんて物分りのいい方。いいじゃなーい。女子は家に残りおふざけの写真などを撮る。

Ryoko is saying, " I cleaned this pond yesterday!" and yes, she did. Good job, Ryo pon!
涼子が「昨日この池を掃除したのはアタシです！」と言っている。それは事実。おつかれ！涼ポン。

When Takefumi came home, my aunt Ajiko came by to pray so another picture! Thank you Aunt Ajiko for coming for our dad.
岳史が山から帰って来たとき、阿二子おばちゃんもお参りに見えました。理由をみつけては記念撮影。パパのためにお参りいただき、ありがとうござました！

This was my last day in Japan so took a lot of pictures. This was in the back yard of Akiko's place.　今日は日本滞在最後の日なのでたくさん写真を撮る。これは亜紀子宅のお庭。

Japan 3 : Dinner at Koukiya

Ryoko and Takefumi also came home for the event tomorrow and we all went to Kokiya to have flounder dinner. This not an ordinary flounder but they are called "Shitoshita Karei/Under castle flounder". They are special ones because they live only under the castle where river water and sea water meet!
涼子と岳史も明日ある行事のために帰ってきたので、幸喜屋というところにカレイ料理を食べに行きました。ただのカレイではありません。城下カレイといってそこのお城の下の川の水と海の水が交わる所のみに生息するという貴重なカレイです。

OK, what should we order? Decisions, decisions! We ordered a full course of flounder to enjoy the fish in different cooking styles.
さて、何を頼もうか。迷うねえ。でも、ここは城下かれいづくしのコースにしましょう！

宴会の始まり、始まり。かんぱーい！

The amuse bouche was flounder's eggs on a cucumber piece and flounder miso. Go well with Sake! (I was drinking Oolong tea though)　付き出しはカレイの卵がきゅうりに乗ったものと、カレイ味噌。うーんおいしい。お酒のアテだね。（って私はウーロン茶でしたが。）

Miso stuffed flounder tempura, vinaigrette flounder, deep fried flounder in sour sauce aaaaand flounder sashimi!! Notice all the food came in the flounder shaped dishes.
味噌をはさんだカレイの天ぷら、カレイの酢の物、南蛮漬け、そしてお刺身！！見て、見て。全部お料理がかれいのお皿で出てきます。

Deep fried bone in flounder and veggies, soy sauce braised flounder and flounder in clear soup.
カレイの骨ごと唐揚げと野菜揚げ、お煮付け、かれいのお吸い物。

Last but not least, flounder sushi !! They are all for one person so we all ate these dishes each! You think we got tired of flounder because all the dishes are the same fish. No, the different cooking method gave different taste, texture, aroma and temperature so we enjoyed each dishes till the end. This type of serving style is quite unique but you often see them in Japanese cuisine. It is called "zukushi" means "filled with" so we had flounder zukushi today. You know, a TV show, Iron chef is kind of like this. They choose one ingredient and chefs cook a full course with it. It IS "zukushi" indeed!
そして最後を飾るのがカレイの握りずし。あー、おいしかった。これ全部が一人分です。すごいでしょ。違う料理法でお魚の味、香り、食感、温度が違うので同じお魚でも飽きることなく最後までおいしくいただきました。この「づくし」のスタイルって日本料理だけじゃないのかなあ。TV番組の「料理の鉄人」なんかもそうですね。材料ひとつを選んでそれでコースを作るから。

Ryoko made a copy of one of our childhood pics. It was Ryoko's 3rd birthday and 12 year old me is wearing Peanut Tshirt!! Great picture. Our expressions are very natural and no imitated smiles. I have close sisters and brother and it is our family precept, "close family"

Japan 2: Days in Beppu

I stayed at Mom's place in Beppu for long time, 10 days. During the time, I had mom's home cooking, met my old friend and cousins, helped mom to organize her closet, watched Japanese TV programs and so on...great times.
今回は別府で10日の長期滞在でしたが、その間、ママの手料理ににんまりしたり、旧い友人と会ったり、従兄弟を訪ねたり、ママのクローゼットの片付けを手伝ったり、日本のテレビ番組を見たりとたくさん楽しいことをしました。

This is my dinner in one of those days. Mackerel cured between dried kelp overnight. Ohhhh, the good flavor of kelp got to transfer to the fish and make fish translucent.....
これはある日の夕食の一部。昆布〆の関サバはすごく深い味わい。昆布のうまみがお魚に移って透き通るようなあめ色にになっています。

This is an Italian dinner I had with my friend from high school. Forgot to take pics of main dish because we were too busy talking....the last time I saw him was 20 years ago! No wonder we had so many things to talk. Thank you Isayama san to take me to this nice place.
こちらは高校時代の友人と出かけた創作イタリアン。おしゃべりに忙しくメインとデザートの写真を撮り忘れました。最後に彼に会ったのは20年前！そりゃあ積もる話もあるってことです。こんなおいしいレストランを教えてくださってありがとう、諌山さん！

One day, I was craving for sweet and sour pork so we went to a Chinese restaurant. The pork was good there but I had tofu noodles for the first time and it was great! No, no. Not noodle with tofu. Noodle made OF tofu. I think I saw those noodles at a Chinese supermarket near my house....new stuff to cook!
ある日、酢豚をどうしても食べたくなり、近くの中華料理のお店へ。酢豚もおいしかったけど、豆腐麺の炒めものがすごくおいしかった。初めて食べたけどお豆腐でできた麺なんです。ヘルシーおいしー！ウチの近くの中華系スーパーマーケットでパッケージを見たので帰ってから試してみよう。ウチの常備麺になりそう。

This is a role cake which made a huge hit in Japan. They are sold at a convenience store, Lawson! You would not believe how good the food at Japanese convenience stores are. Amazing!このロールケーキは日本で大ヒット中。何とローソンの「うちカフェ」というシリーズのもの。日本のコンビニは本当に優秀。ごちそーさまでした。

Mom's neighbor gave us this brunch of loquat. Nicely arranged in the Japanese room. This neighbor is a wife of a principal from my elementary school. He passed away a few years ago but he was a very nice gentleman who was always smiling with a good posture. At night this loquat brunches came to us, I had a dream of him walking in the garden with the familiar smile....ママの隣人がこのびわの枝を持ってきてくださり、和室に美しく飾られました。この隣人は私の小学校の校長先生の奥様。先生は数年前に亡くなりましたが、とても素敵な紳士で、いつも背筋がきちんと伸びていて、静かな微笑みを絶やさない方でした。不思議なことにこのビワの枝が来た夜、先生が庭を歩いてこちらに向かっている夢を見ました。もちろん、あの微笑みで。

Japan 1 : My girl friends from college

Arrived in Tokyo late last night. I stayed my sister's place and I was treated with her home cooking. Ohhh, stewed red snapper which my cousin caught and botargo.....They were all delicious. Thank you, Ryo pon!
昨夜遅く、東京について妹の涼子のところに泊まりました。おいしい夜ご飯を作って待ってくれていて感激。鯛（何といとこが釣った！）のお煮付けとかからすみとか…。全部おいしかった。涼ポン、ありがとう！

Girl's lunch! No, this is not a ordinary girl's lunch. My friends from college got together and I saw one of them for the first time in 25 years! I went to a women's college and we had a great time together in college. We chatted and laughed for three hours at this Thai restaurant!! I felt like I was back in college time. We are still cuuuuuute, aren't we? :)
女子会ランチ！いえ、ただの女子会ではありません。大学時代の仲良しが集まりました。25年ぶりに会うお友達もいて感激！女子大でしたが、それは楽しい時間をみんなで過ごしました。バブルの時代だったし、女子大生はもてはやされてたし、いい時代でした。このタイレストランで3時間もおしゃべりして大笑いして。女子大生に戻った気分でした。ホラ、私達ってまだまだカワイイでしょ？うふ。

We moved to a cafe and we had desserts. This place has excellent sweets. Mine was Mille crepe filled with whip cream and fruits! Mmmmm, I love sweets in Japan! Unlike me, most of them got married in their 20's so their kids are all big. Loved to hear how they are raising their kids. We had a great time today and we promised to see each other again soon. At least not after 25 years!! Thank you, girls for coming! Some of us went to Kori chan's place and kept talking. We had too much fun and I almost missed my plane to Oita!
近くのコーヒーショップへ移り、デザートをいただきました。ここはそれは素晴らしいラインナップのお菓子があって、選ぶのに時間がかかった。私は生クリームとフルーツが詰まったミルクレープ。あー、日本のケーキはおいしいなあ。私と違い、みんな20代で結婚しているので、お子さんはみんな大きいのですが、子育ての話を聞くのがとても楽しかった。あっという間に楽しい時間は過ぎ、次回は早い機会に会おうね、と約束しました。少なくとも25年も待たないでね。みなさん、集まって下さってありがとう！この後、ガーデンプレイス内にある（！）かおりちゃん宅にお邪魔しましたがあまりに楽しすぎてもう少しで大分行きの飛行機に乗り遅れるところでした。あぶない、あぶない。

Hong Kong 7 : Leaving Hong Kong

We had coffee and some pastries for breakfast in the hotel room. We are leaving Hong Kong soon. I am going to Japan before going home but Steven needs to go home since he has some work to do....Sniff sniff....コーヒーとペーストリーをホテルのお部屋で食べて、そろそろ香港を出発します。私は家に帰る前にパパの１７回忌のお参りするため、日本に寄り道。Stevenは仕事のため立ち寄れずまっすぐ家へ。グスン。

We went to Central station and checked in there. This is the coolest system ever! You don't have to the airport to check in yourself and luggage. All can be done in town!! We both checked in and Steven left for the airport. I will miss you, honey!! See you at home in 10 days...Now I have 5 hours for my flight so went back to town and will enjoy the last moments in HK.
セントラル駅へ向かいそこでチェックイン！さすがはビジネスと観光の街、香港です。空港に行かずとも駅でフライトのチェックイン、荷物もチェックインできるんです。すごい！二人ともそれを済ませ、Stevenは空港へ向かいます。元気でねぇ。１０日したら家に帰るからねぇ。としばしのお別れをして、さて私は最後の街歩き。フライトまで５時間もあるのです。

I am sitting at a bar in SOHO area and having mango juice (it was 10am and too early for Cosmopolitan) and writing my diary.

SOHOエリアのバーでマンゴジュース（まさか、午前１０時にコスモポリタン飲むわけにはいかないでしょ。）を飲みながら、旅の日記などを書いております。

Before I headed to airport, I needed to have the last noodle at my favorite noodle store. I will miss these noodle....
空港へ向かう前に最後の麺食い。もちろん私のお気に入りのあのお店で。あー、これもう食べられなくなるのね。

The daily market is always interesting in any places in the world. You can see local people's lives there.　デイリーのマーケットは世界中どこでも楽しい。ローカルの人々の生活を垣間見れます。

Hong Kong 6: Shanghai style dim sum

After the 3 mile run in the hotel gym ( I have been running 3 miles EVERY DAY in Hong Kong otherwise I will gain weight with all the yummy food.), I had "small" bowls of noodle (I swear they were only 3-4 inch bowls!!) Shrimp won ton noodle and dry shrimp egg powder over the dry noodle.
ホテルのジムで５Km弱を走った後、（香港に来てから毎日５km弱を走っています。おいしい物がたくさんあって、そうしないと太っちゃう。）小さいボウルの麺を二つ食べました。（本当に小さいんだったら！ご飯茶碗くらいなのよ。）海老ワンタン麺と海老の卵の粉がかかったスープなしの麺。

Left Central area where I was and went to Time square to explore Hong Kong. It was a few hours later I had the noodle that Steven called me. "Where are you, honey? We are going to have dim sum in Times Square area. Care to join us?" Of course I care and I AM in that area. I didn't tell him I had two noodles earlier.
そのセントラルエリアを後にしてタイムスクエアに向かいます。香港最終日だもの。探検しないとね。あの麺の朝食兼昼食を食べた２,３時間後、Stevenから電話がかかってきました。「ねえ、いまどこにいるの？今からタイムスクエアのあたりで飲茶ランチするけど。こない？」こないわけないじゃない。それに私、今そこにいます。でも、ちょっと前にワンタン麺を食べたことは言わなかった。

Ohhhhhh, they were sooooooo good. It was Shanghai style dim sum and we had a lot of dishes I hadn't even seen before. There are only four pictures above. Well, we ate 10 more dishes at least. With Steven's coworkers in HK, seven of us. Including Shanghai dumplings with crab eggs in them!!!
わーい。来てよかった。その飲茶は上海スタイルで見たこともないものがたくさん！上の写真には４皿しかありませんが、あと１０皿はあったかな。いや、Stevenの会社の人達とだから７人でいただいたのよ。カニの卵の入ったショーロンポーもよかったなあ。

They went back to the office and I went back to explore the town. Sorry, guys!
ランチの後、みなさんはオフィスへ戻り、私は街の探索に戻ります。悪いねっ！

I know I am putting too many food entries but I am in Hong Kong, dude. I cannot avoid the topics. Too many good food here. Now we chose this tiny restaurant for dinner.
食べ物のことばかり書いているのはわかっておりますが、ここは香港ですぜ、旦那。おいしいものがあふれていて、その話題を避けるのは不可能かと。さて、夕食ですが、この小さなレストランを選びました。

We went in because our favorite Anthony Bourdain came here and said "This pork was a highlight of the Hong Kong stay" in his show. Yes, he was right. The pork skin was very crispy, almost like hard baguette crust and juicy and deep taste inside. I am sure it was deep fried first. We shared this dish and keep screaming. "So goood!!"
ここに決めた理由は入り口に新聞記事が張ってあって、大好きなAnthony Bourdainがここに来て「ここのポークは香港旅行のハイライトだった。」と彼のテレビ番組で言ったそうなので。んー、彼は間違ってませんでした、ポークの皮がとてもカリカリしておせんべいくらいの噛み応えで中のお肉は柔らかくてジューシーで、深いあじわい。最初に油で揚げてあるのでしょうけれど、なんておいしいの！この一皿を二人で分けて食べたのだけど、「うひゃー、おいしー！」って叫び続けてました。

We don't do bar hopping but we do restaurant hopping. A little walk after the decadent pork & rice, we had noodles. Again, shrimp won ton noodle. I've just got an email from Sumiko from San Francisco saying "Eat their noodle till you get sick. You cannot go to Hong Kong every day. You don't want to regret later" Yes, I took your advice, Sumiko san. This was 4 or 5 th bowls of noodle in 5 days. :)
私たちは飲み屋さんのはしごはしないけれど、レストランのはしごはします。ポークを食べたあとちょっと歩いて、またもや海老ワンタン麺。San Franciscoのすみ子さんからEmailが来てて、「めったに来れるわけじゃないのだから、本場の麺をおなか壊す覚悟でたくさん食べるべし。」と。はい。アドバイス通りにしております。すみ子さん。

Time to go back to the hotel to pack. We are leaving tomorrow. We took the last tram ride and said good by to Hong Kong.
そろそろ、ホテルに帰って荷造りしないとね。明日は香港を離れるのだから。最後のトラムに乗って香港にさようなら。

Hong Kong 5: Dim sum in Kowloon

We are going to Kowloon to have dim sum. Dim sum for Sunday brunch? Isn't it perfect?! We took a ferry again to get there.
九龍エリアに飲茶ブランチをしに行きます。日曜ブランチに飲茶なんて完璧でしょ？またもやフェリーで向かっています。

Jessica made a reservation for us and it was Beijing style dim sum which is a little different from Cantonese style we usually have. I think it is spicier and more meat dishes. The jelly fish was great. They are big chunks and soft and juicy!
友人のジェシカが予約してくれたのは北京スタイルの飲茶。いつもいただいている広東のものとはちょっと違う。辛さが強くて、肉類が多いかな。くらけの前菜には参りました。大きくてやわらかく、ジューシー。おいしい！

After the dim sum brunch, we walked around the town. The highlight of the day was massage on the Nathan street. We had shoulder+back massage and foot massage. Ohhhhhhh, we were in the heaven!
飲茶の後は街をお散歩。この日のハイライトはネイザン通りで受けたマッサージ。肩と背中、そして足のマッサージをしてもらい極楽、極楽！

Hong Kong 4 : Macau & night life

Steven is off today so we are going to Macau! One more stamp on our passports! We took a tram to go to ferry terminal. Look at the price for this tram ride. It is only HK$ 2 which is 30 cents or so in US dollars!!
Stevenがオフだったので、今日はマカオに行ってきます。パスポートにもうひとつスタンプが増えます。フェリー乗り場まで例のダブルデッカーのトラムに乗って行きます。価格表を見てもわかるように大人はどこまで乗っても香港$２！３０円くらい？

We bought Portuguese egg tart for breakfast since we are going to Macau where was a colony of Portugal.　マカオに行くのだもの、ポルトガルエッグタルトを食べとかないとね。ポルトガルの植民地だったそう。

Well, we didn't know they serve food in the ferry so we ate a little bit of ferry food. Oh, we were in Super Class and regular class people don't get this food. Hee hee hee...(Only $10 difference so it is not a big deal....silly me.)　実はフェリーの中で食事が出るなんて知らなかったの。タルトを食べた私達は船内食を少しだけいただきました。あ、これはスーパークラスでの話で、普通のクラスでは食事は出ませんのよ。おほほ。（たかだか、$10の差額なので大したことないです。）

Macau has interesting mixed cultures of China and Portugal. The colorful buildings remind me of Brazil...
マカオは中国とポルトガルの文化が混ざったおもしろいところでした。カラフルな建物はブラジルにもちょっと似てる。

We passed on casinos and visited world heritage sites. First we saw ruins of st. Paul's. Definitely European style church and the gate was very beautiful.　
マカオといえばカジノですがそれはパスして世界遺産の建物などを訪れました。最初はセントポール教会跡。入り口だけは残っています。完全なヨーロッパ建築でとても美しい。

There were some cannons around the area and we took usual silly pictures.
近くには大砲がある広場があり、私達はいつものおふざけ写真。

We walked through other historical buildings (no pics) and now we are starving! We asked a guard of a museum for Macau food restaurant and here it is!!
他の古い建物なども歩いて周り（写真なし）おなかぺこぺこ。美術館の守衛さんにマカオレストランを薦めてもらいました。ここですよー。

We ordered salted cod salad, seafood curry dish and African chicken. Ohhhh, it was good. It tasted like Thai food a little bit. Spicy and sweet.
塩漬けのタラのサラダ、シーフードカレー、アフリカンチキンを注文しました。あー、おいしかった。特にチキン！ちょっと甘くてスパイシーなところはタイ料理にもちょっと似てるかな。

Last place to visit was A-Ma Temple. This was Chinese style temple which has reddish color buildings with ceramic roof tiles.　最後の場所はA-MA寺院。中国スタイルで、赤系統の建物と瓦屋根できれいです。

OK. It is time to go back to Hong Kong island. Steven needs to go to work to fix something....On the way back, sweets and tea sandwich were served.....We had a little bit because we were still full from the big lunch.　さてと。Stevenがオフィスにちょっとよらなければならないので、そろそろ帰りましょうか。帰りの便ではハイティー風のスナックがあのランチの後ではこれを完食するのは私でも無理。

After Steven came back to the hotel, we went to a sky bar, Sevva to meet our friends. Bar!? We don't go out for drink so often so I was excited. See I am wearing leopard print mini dress !! I think the last time I wore this kind of night life dress was 10 years ago.

Stevenが仕事から帰ったあと、友人に会うためにスカイバーへ。バーですって？私達は飲みにだけ出かけることはほとんどないので、私はウキウキ。ほら、ヒョウ柄のミニドレスなんて着ています。こんな格好は本当に久し振り。10年ぶりくらいか？

After we enjoyed beautiful views and talking, we movd to Mandarin Oriental Hotel to get some late night snack! Four of us shared these three sweets. Mmmmmm everything was tasty. Wow, it was a long day with full of fun!!
美しい景色とおしゃべりを堪能した後、マンダリンオリエンタルホテルで夜のお茶会。私達4人でこの３つのスイーツをいただきました。はあ、今日は楽しさが詰まった長い一日でした。

Hong Kong 3 : Kowloon Area

これはスターフェリーの椅子です。この古めかしい感じがいいでしょ。

Yes, I took this ferry to across the water to go to Kowloon area. It was beautiful day for being on the water. Felt nice breeze and listened to the water noise the boat made.

そう、このフェリーで九龍エリアへ行ってきました。それはいい天気で、フェリーに乗るにはうってつけの日。気持ちのいい風を受けながら、フェリーが立てる水の音を聞いています。

Kowloon is a big shopping area and is famous for its colorful signs.
九龍はお買い物天国で派手な看板が有名です。

I did some shopping in Hong Kong island earlier so noting special to buy here. However, I found Hainan chicken restaurant and had lunch there. The waitress didn't speak English so the guy sitting next me helped me with ordering. He also showed me a restaurant search site, openrice.com. Looks like very popular in Hong Kong. The chicken was very juicy and tasty. Glad to pick this restaurant.
お買い物は香港島でちょっとしたし、ここで買うものは特になかった。でも、ランチにぴったりのお店を見つけました。ハイナンチキン。ウェイトレスが英語を話さなかったのですが、隣のテーブルに座っていたお兄さんが注文を手伝ってくれました。その上、今、香港で評判のOpenrice.comというレストラン検索のサイトも教えてくれました。チキンはジューシーでとてもおいしかった。このお店にしてよかった。

After I came back to hotel, I decided to take the double Decker tram to go to Wang Chai area. LOVE IT!!!! I liked the old style tram and it reminded me of the street train I used to ride with mom when I was a kid. The view from the upstairs is very nice. The most I liked was this tram doesn't have any glasses on their windows so I can feel night breeze looking down the old town.

ホテルに戻って来てから、例のダブルデッカーのトラムに乗ってワンチャイ　エリアに行くことにしました。このトラムすごくいい！中の古めかしい感じがお気に入り。子供のころママと乗った路面電車を思い出しました。２階からのながめは最高。でも一番よかったのは窓にガラスがなかったことかな。夜風を感じながら、この旧い町を見下ろせる。

Mmmmm, so exotic...　んー、エキゾチックですねえ。

Steven works late tonight so I need to have dinner by myself. I ate noodles and dumplings already so wanted something else. This cute restaurant had an interesting menu. I had steamed pork ground meat and ohhhhhhhh it was very good.
Stevenは今夜は遅くまでお仕事なのでお一人様の夕食。麺類も餃子類もいただいたので、何か違うものが食べたいなあ。このかわいらしいレストランは色々と珍しいメニューがあったので、入ってみる。豚ミンチの蒸し物を注文しました。うひゃー、おいしい。

Hong Kong 2: Victoria Peak

We took a tram to go up to Victoria Peak. It was only week day but it was very crowded and we needed to wait 3 turns to get into the tram.
ビクトリアピークにトラムで登りました。平日の夜なのに、とても混んでいて、３回も順番を待ってやっと乗れました。

The view from the peak was just amazing. Looked like a jewelry box.
頂上からの夜景はそれはもう美しい。宝石箱のようでした。

There is a light show at 8pm every day but we couldn't see it well but no needed any shows. The lights on the buildings are just gorgeous.
8時に毎晩光のショーがあるらしいけれど、よく見えなかった。でもそんなショーは必要なく、このライトだけで充分にゴージャス。

They had a big heart shaped love shrine (?) and you can tie a paper with your wishes. I did one, too!!　大きなハート型のラブ神社（？）があって告白やお願いを書いた紙を結び付けます。私もやってきました。

Hong Kong 1: Town

Gypsy couple Steven & Mikako is now in Hong Kong. We had lychee for breakfast. Mmmm, we are in tropical area, aren't we? 旅がらすカップルのSteven&Mikakoは現在、香港におります。朝ごはんにライチをいただくなんて、本当にトロピカルな所にきているのね。

The hotel room is facing Victoria peak so we can see a lot of green from the window.
ホテルはビクトリアピークに面しているので、お部屋から緑がたくさん見えます。

After Steven left for his office, my explore in the town has started. Old buildings and new buildings are spread in the town so you can enjoy totally different atmosphere. Double decker bus/tram look very interesting. I want to take them sometime soon but now. I would walk because I have no idea the system.
Stevenが会社に行った後、私は町へ冒険に繰り出します。古いビルと新しいビルが共存しているので、全く違う雰囲気が味わえるおもしろい街です。ダブルデッカーのバスやトラムがおもしろい。滞在中には是非乗ってみたいけど今はてくてく歩きます。だってシステムがよくわからないんだもん。

I was in SOHO Area and this is Pottinger Street where you see a lot of small stores.
SOHOというエリアにいます。ここはポッティンジャー通り。小さいお店がたくさんあります。

As usual I enjoyed looking daily market.
いつものように日常品のマーケットを楽しむ。

SOHO Area has fashionable restaurants and shops and it is very crowded in lunch time.
SOHOエリアはおしゃれなレストランやお店があって、ランチタイムにはとても込んでいました。

Hanging roasted chicken & pork is very Chinese looking. The bakery goods looked great, too.
ローストチキンやポークが店先にぶら下がっているのってとても中華な光景です。お菓子もおいしそうでした。

My lunch was pork & pitan egg congee. Wow this was very tasty. The rice was flavored very well and not so oily. I may come back here again.
私のランチはピータンと豚のお粥。味がお米にしみてて、しかも油っこくなくおいしかったあ。又、来るかも。

6th Anniversary

Today we had the 6th wedding anniversary and went to Alexander's stake house in Cupertino. The pic below is us waiting at the entrance. Look at the huge meat! You would ask "steak house for anniversary dinner? Isn't there any more romantic ones?" Wait to see inside of this restaurant and food.

We told them this is our anniversary before hand so everybody said, "Happy Anniversary!" and they gave us two glasses of Champagne! Nice!

The chef here is half Japanese and half American guy and so the menu had a lot of Japanese ingredients/style dishes. This is seaweed salad as a starter.

I had tomato bisque with blue cheese. I was hoping the blue cheese was not over powering the soup and it didn't!! Just hint of blue cheese balanced very well with the tomato soup. Oh, it was goooood.

Steven's white asparagus salad was very delicate and went well with Parmesan crisp.

Hamachi shooters were big hit in the appetizers. It was a little bit too spicy for me but the hamachi is VERY fresh and the shoyu based sauce was incredible!

Yuzu Sherbet for refreshing. Mmmmm. Yummy!

Now our main dish, Porter house steak! It was huge but tasted amazing. The roasted garlic was marinated in balsamic vinegar so had some sweetness too.

They served orange juice flavor cotton candy. Well this is just fun to see. We got a cute dessert with a candle with `Happy Anniversary` written with chocolate. They are so sweet! Our camera ran out of the battery so no pic.

It has been amazing 6 years and I didn't think I can be happy like this. Thank you so much, Steven! I love you!!!

Garage Sale

I love going to Garage Sales but I had never did one. Today Rose Garden/Hatchet area had a huge garage sale so decided to do one at our front yard. Surprisingly a lo of people visited us and more than half of our stuff were gone! It is not bad for the first time yard sale.

ガレージセールに行くのは大好きだけど自分でしたのは初めて。今日は私達のいるローズガーデン/ハンチェット地区がする一年に一度の合同ガレージセールの日だったので我が家も参加しました。ウチは小さい通りにあるしとそんなにこないかなと思っていたら沢山の人がやってきてびっくり。半分以上の物が売れました。初めてのガレージセールにしては大成功。

Wall color in the kitchen

We had been thinking the wall color in the kitchen for long time but we finally decided to use some yellowish color. Since the decorative tiles above the gas range are kind of Provencal, yellow goes with the theme. I painted samples on the wall and was looking and looking and looking at them for 2 days and nights.
長い間、キッチンの壁の色で悩んでいた私達ですが、ついに黄色系のペンキに決定。ガスレンジ上のタイルが何となくプロヴァンス風なので、黄色がそのテーマに乗っているかと。サンプルのペンキを壁に塗って2昼夜見つめ続けてどの色にするか決めました。

I am proud of myself because I painted in one day! The paint color name is Sweet buttered Corn. The living room wall is "sweet carrot" so sounds about right!
一日でペンキ塗りを終えた自分に感心！色の名前は「Sweet buttered Corn」リビングの壁の色が「Sweet carrot」だからいいでしょう？…ってどういいのか。

Almost done!

I made Thai food, gai pad bai gapao　for dinner. Stir fried minced meat and basil on rice. It was gooood! 夕食はタイでガパオ飯を作りました。バジルがいい香り。

I also made a lot of pleated pouches for gifts. I had a lot of fun thinking combinations of the fabrics. Aren't they cute?
それからプリーツ付きのポーチをいくつもつくりました。プレゼント用です。楽しいのは布地の組み合わせ。かわいいでしょ？

Kitchen remodeling 7

We are ripping off the old crown molding. Some of them are hard to take of because the old paint glued the molding very hard. クラウンモルディングを引っぱがしております。ペンキが固まってすごく取りづらいのもありました。

After that, I primed the wall for the new color! Look at the painter tape on my hip. Look like a pro, don't I? I am wearing a mask because of the dust. I am not playing a doctor or anything.
その後は、壁の色を塗り替えるために白の下地を塗ります。腰につけたペインターテープがサマになっているでしょう？マスクをしているのは埃っぽいので。風邪をひいているわけではありません。

Dinner at B44

We went to San Francisco and had dinner with Sumiko and Bruce at B44. It is a Spanish restaurant and we also ordered tapas but no pics here. Everything was good and especially my trout with sauteed veggies and truffle oil was fantastic! Crispy trout went well with the aroma of truffle oil.

San FranciscoのB44というスペイン料理やさんで、すみ子さんとブルース、私達でディナーをいただきました。タパス料理（小皿）も頼んだのに写真を撮り忘れました。全部おいしかったけど、私のトラウト（マス）料理が絶品。魚の皮はパリッとしていて付け合せのお野菜とトリュフオイルがお料理を引き立てていました。

We ate a lot but we didn't skip desserts either!! We chatted, ate and drunk. This is the way to spend Saturday night!! (They lowered the lights in the restaurant after the main dishes, so the pics below are all pinkish!)　たくさん食べたけど、デザートもちゃんといただきましたよ！楽しくお話して、食べて、飲んで、これこそ、サタデーナイトってもんでしょう！（メインディッシュの後、照明が落とされたので写真がピンクですが。）

First cooking in the new kitchen

Kitchen remodeling is not finished yet but it is cookable now. I made a first meal in the new kitchen. As per Steven's request, I made coq au vin for the first meal cooked in the new kitchen.
キッチンのリモデルは終わってないけれど、お料理ができるようになりました。記念すべき第一回目のお料理はStevenのリクエストにより、Coq au vin、チキンのワイン煮です。

Burrata cheese and prosciutto with black pepper on cracker is appetizer. We had been looking for this Italian cheese for long time and found it at Wholefoods. They are made locally in Berkeley. Creamy Mozzarella cheese wrapped with not so creamy Mozzarella so when you cut it, the creamy ones run out from it. Mmmmmm!
前菜はブラータチーズ＋プロシュートに黒胡椒をかけてクラッカーに乗せました。このブラータはイタリアンチーズで、長い間探していましたがWholoefoodsで発見。ローカルにBerkeleyで作られたものですがとってもおいしい。クリーミーなモッツァレラチーズがそうクリーミーでないモッツァラレに包まれていて、切るとクリーミーな方が溶け出すように出てきます。おいしー！

This is a cheating version of Coq au vin because I didn't spend two days to marinate the meat or cooked in the oven for a few hours. I just used our new powerful gas stove. The recipe is here.
普通Coq au vinは数日かけて作るし、何時間もオーブンを使うのですが、今回のは簡単バージョン。新しいガスレンジのパワーだけで仕上げました。英語だけどレシピはここ。

Wine makes this dish sooooo tasty!

Kitchen Remodeling 6

Tile time!! They started with stapling the wire mesh to the wall, put some mortar on for tiles.
タイルの係りの人達が来ました。まずは金網を壁に大きいホッチキスで留めていき,その上にモルタルを乗せます。

Mortar is done. Hmmmm, I like this color. I might paint the wall gray!!
モルタル終了。あら？この色いいじゃないの。壁をグレイにしちゃおうかな。

The decorative tiles are also installed and still have spacers between the tiles. White grout will be insert between them.
デコタイルも期待通りに出来上がりました。まだ、スペーサーがタイルの間に入ってますが。これから白いグラウトが隙間に埋め込まれます。

and...そして…

Tada!　ジャーン！

Beautiful, JUST Beautiful!!! We did a good job picking these decorative tiles.
素晴らしい、ただ、ただ素晴らしい。このデコタイルよかったよ、本当に。

Now our kitchen is 85% done. Need to think about crown molding. We will do this by ourselves.
さあ、キッチンも85％できあがり。次は私達がクラウンモルディングを付け替える番です。古いのを、バリッとひきはがして、新しいのをつけます。白いのをつける予定。

Also need to pick color for the wall...It is going to be another busy weekend! :)
その前には壁も塗り替えないとね。何色がいいかなあ。今週末も忙しくなりそうです。

Kitchen Remodeling 5

The gas pipe is in, electricity is set and the granite is cut!!! Yes, today is the day the granite counter is in! The new plywood is nailed in first and here it comes. Granite counter! It looks good and go well with our floor.
ガス工事終了、電気工事終了、カウンターになるグラナイトのカットも終了したと電話がありました！そう、今日はそのグラナイトが来る日です。新しいベースの板をしいて、グラナイトが来たー！いい感じです。床の黒と合う。

The new sink is also installed and we have two halls for a faucet and soap dispenser. Steven looks happy, too.
新しい流しもつきました。２つの穴は蛇口と洗剤入れをつけるためのもの。Stevenもうれしそう。

Welcome to my 75% done kitchen!! I look pretty happy, don't I?
75％終了したキッチンへようこそ！私もうれしそうだね。

Tile guys are coming on Monday! After the tiles are installed on the wall, there are some more jobs we need to do by ourselves such as crown molding and painting. Almost there!!!
月曜日にはタイルを貼る人がきます。タイルの後は私達が自分でする仕事、クラウンモルディング、ペンキ塗りなどが続きます。完成の日も近い！

Drinko de Mayo!

My lovely neighbor, Cheryl hosted girl's Drinko de Mayo party at her place so I made guacamole and fruit salad in a water melon cup. I looked for a proper attire for this Mexican theme party and this is it. Cute beach skirt from Brazil. Well, same South America, right?
ご近所さんのCheryl がメキシコの大きな祝日、Cinco de Mayo（５月５日）にDrinko de Mayoと名づけてガールズパーティーを開いてくれました。（Cinco de Mayoの詳細はこちら）私はキュウリとクミンシードがたっぷり入ったグアカモレとスイカをくりぬいてフルーツサラダを作って行きました。メキシカンな衣装を探したけれど手持ちの衣装の中ではこのかわいいビーチスカート。ブラジルで買ったものですが同じ南アメリカってことでOKでしょ。

Cheryl has a gorgeous garden and we had so much fun there. Seven women got together and drunk, chatted, laughed so hard...." We should do this every week!!" That is our conclusion at the end of the party. :) Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Cherylのお庭はとても素敵。そのお庭で楽しい時間をすごしました。女性だけ７人集まって飲んで、しゃべって、大笑いして。パーティーの終わりに皆が同意したのは「これ毎週しようよ！」と言う意見。ははは。Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

Run for Japan 2

It was a beautiful Sunday morning and a lot of people got together for Japan earthquake relief.
気持ちのいい日曜の朝。たくさんの人が東北地震被災者への救済のため集まりました。

Before the run/walk, there was a opening ceremony and we did "Radio Taiso"!!! It is a traditional Japanese exercises we have been doing since 1925. Some factories and companies in Japan do this exercises every morning. All the Japanese kids learn this at the elementary school and they keep doing till high school!! During the summer vacation, kids go to their local park to do this exercises at 6:30am EVERYDAY. They have a little card hanging around their necks and get a stamp after the exercises. If you don't miss any days, you will get a little prize. So Japanese people have a lot of memories and sentimental feelings about this exercises. When I heard, "We are doing Radio Taiso before the run." I just laughed and cannot stop laughing and smiling because I never thought I would do have a chance to do this in US. I did this first time in 25 years probably. Now you understand why I am laughing in all the pictures above.
Run/Walkが始まる前にオープニングイベントがあったのですが、何とラジオ体操をみんなでしました! 夏休みに毎日首からカード下げて近くに公園に朝６時半に行っていた子供の頃を思い出しました。２５年ぶりかなあ。何だかいろいろなことを思い出したり、アメリカで日本人以外の人達とこの体操をしていることの意外性がおかしくてずっと笑いながら体操してしまいました。だから上の写真では全部大笑いしているの。

さあ、ラジオ体操もしたし、Steven、準備できた？

"Sure, I am!" 「もちろん！」

It was a great event and I was amazed that this event organized very well in a very short time. We ran/walked praying Japan will recover and get back their power soon. The lady on the left is Yuko san, one of the organizers of this event. Aya san finished running her first race! Great job, everybody!!
とてもいいイベントでした。感心したのはこの短い間にとてもよくオーガナイズされていたこと。みんな日本が復興して早く元気を取り戻せるように祈りながら参加しました。左の写真の女性はオーガナイザーの一人である、ゆう子さん。文さんも初レースを完走！みんなよくがんばった！

Sharks & Run for Japan

San Jose Sharks beat LA Kings and are going to the next stage of Playoffs for Stanley cup!! I drew this on our front window. We are also rooting for the Philadelphia Flyers so I didn't forget their name.

地元ホッケーチームのサンノゼシャークスがLAのキングスを破り、次のステージへ。スタンリーカップという国内一を決める試合への予選であるプレイオフでがんばっています。ウチの正面の窓にこんなものを書いて応援しています。フィラデルフィアのチームフライヤーズも応援しているので忘れずにちょこっと。

I volunteered for making signs for Run For Japan event. I got a cool Staff T-shirt! I made some friends here and had fun making these signs.
Run For Japanのイベントで看板書きのボランティアをしてきました。かっこいいスタッフTシャツまでもらっちゃった。お友達もできて楽しくサインを作ってきました。

Kitchen remodeling 4

Oh my gosh, my kitchen!!!

キャー！ウチのキッチンが！

Yes, they came to demolish the kitchen counter and wall tiles. These two guys did very fast and carefully without using any power tools and cleaned after very well.
そうです。この２人がキッチンカウンターと壁のタイルを壊しに来ました。パワーツールは使わず丁寧にしかもすごく早く壊しました。そして後もすごくキレイに掃除していってくれた。

Then, granite guy came in and made a template for the counter with very thin wooden plate. He took it back to cut granite!!
次にgraniteの係りの人が来て、石を切るための型を作っていきます。薄い木の板で作り、それを持って帰りました。

We are excited to see the diner looking black & white tiles are gone! We cannot cook for a week or so. So no cooking pictures for a while.
ダイナー風の白黒タイルがなくなってうれしい！１週間ほどはキッチン使えないので、お料理の写真はしばらくありません。悪しからず！
